Public relations vice presidents are industry veterans. They’re typically on a very friendly level with key media, industry, and in some cases relevant celebrity contacts. They can reach out to them for campaign relevant favors, and they are the first shoulder an influencer taps on when making a move within the industry. They also know how to leverage them, picking their spots and not exhausting their resources. Much of their time is spent focusing on the overall health of the firm/agency, ushering in new business, and ensuring that clients are satisfied with the status of their campaigns.

The public relations vice president reports to the owner/CEO of the company or firm. Account directors, account supervisors, account managers, account executives, account coordinators, and interns support him or her.

Vice Presidents should be highly connected and highly specialized in their industry. They should be able to come in and make a difference from the second they set foot in the office. If there is a need for a Vice President, the firm is probably either growing very quickly or the previous vice president was let go. Either situation will demand that you are able to adapt quickly and add value.
