Operations Manager Resume Sample

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the overall functionality of a company. Many of these responsibilities fall under the HR umbrella. The operations manager may execute these tasks directly or manage subordinates to address these responsibilities.

Operations managers can take on an amalgamation of responsibilities, including but not limited to overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reporting grant entries, managing HR employees, creating budgets, and ensuring that all branches of a company are working in sync. They should be implementing systems, evaluating their performance, and improving when and where necessary. While some of this position dives “into the trenches,” it’s more likely that this role will be providing support for better management and boosting the effectiveness of support services like HR, IT, Finance, and other divisions that are imperative to the overall health of a company. They should have a strong grasp and view on immediate actions, but most of their mental energy should be focused on the long term, viewing things from a systemic perspective. They should also have experience in creating and managing budgets, and feel comfortable collaborating on this task when necessary.

Most operations managers report back executive directors, VPs, and C-Level members, but can function independently on occasion. They should be prepared to collaborate with virtually all branches of a company.

To be an operations manager, you should be very analytical, and be able to identify and isolate lynchpins of performance, and how they can be improved upon if possible. You should also have a balance between excellent communication skills and a mathematical mindset. Payroll, budgeting, and financial health are a large segment of this job, but a steady flow of communication is integral as well.

Much of this experience should be management-related, as an operations manager is responsible for a large number of entire departments.
