Accountants prepare and analyze financial information, statements, and records, and translate the information into tangible results, usually in reports. These reports and recommended analysis help determine a company’s financial accuracy, completeness, and compliance to policies and laws regarding finance. This financial planning and execution often includes but is not limited to taxes. Part of an accountant’s job is also to analyze spending, trends, operations, and commitments, and help advise the most financially sound decisions within that analysis. Accountants also are solely responsible or work in collaboration with others to help devise a budget.

Accountants may report to senior accountants, financial directors, operations directors, and c-level employees.

To be an accountant, you must be able to balance financial analysis and the intricacies within in with translating the results into a language that other businessmen will understand. You also must be able to articulate your findings into informed recommendations for decision makers within the company – and accept the responsibility that comes with it. Accountants should be detail-oriented and mathematically minded, allowing results and data to lead the way for financial planning.
