  • Works in tandem with the Mechanical Specialist CL2 – Mechanical as the responsible parties on the shift
  • Places boilers in and out of operation in accordance with instructions from the Mechanical Specialist CL2
  • Observes all machinery and instruments, and reports unusual situations to the Mechanical Specialist CL2
  • Unloads oil, salt and chemical barrels, cleans oil strainers, and regenerates softeners and de-alkalizers
  • Operates multiple valves and complex machinery in accordance with general instructions to regulate material input to boilers and steam output
  • Tests and treats feed water
  • Records readings from the indicator, meter, gauge, fuel use, and other instruments in a log. May interpret data to make regulating control decisions
  • Cleans, paints and performs preventive maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment
  • Valid High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License required, stationary steam license preferred
  • Previous experience maintaining and operating high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment used in the production of steam required. Three – five years’ work experience strongly preferred
  • Must possess a work history which demonstrates consistent and reliable work habits
  • Previous experience working a rotating shift strongly preferred
  • Previous experience working in confined spaces required
  • Must possess knowledge of and training in boiler operations. Familiarity with water boiler operation strongly preferred
  • Experience working as an effective and cooperative member of an operation team
  • Must possess ability to read, carry out and explain complex verbal and written instructions
  • Valid Maine driver’s license required
  • Home phone and reliable transportation required
  • Ability to be on campus within 30 minutes of being called required
