Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-defining recommendations, and change proposals to meet project milestones and budgetary constraints
Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layouts, detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and schematics by coordinating with designers or drafters, interpreting customer and functional requirements, or by using computer-aided design tools and following industry and/or military drawing standards. Develops data and may make preliminary layouts, sketches, notes, and documentation in response to customer proposal requests
Reviews drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and improvements to engineers or other designers
Conducts analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals
Provides technical information which may affect long range plant and product engineering planning by researching manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations
Communicates with customers on TTS product capabilities and to clarify customers’ technical requirements. Supports writing technical proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting specifications and requirements. Prepares various reports by analyzing and summarizing data and works closely with Project Managers to meet performance and cost milestones
Recommends changes to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement principles and techniques
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations
Consistently applies established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods
Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represents company on specific projects. Assists in mentoring new employees. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement)
Bachelors degree (BS) in mechanical, or aerospace engineering or a related technical discipline
At least 3 years of Project Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through three or more years of related experience
Practical knowledge of mechanical, packaging, and/or engineering principles, theories, concepts, and techniques, industry practices, regulations, and policies
Ability to apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
Familiarity of drawing practices, tolerancing and use of computer-aided design and basic engineering analysis tools
Ability to work on a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors and analysis of impact, and problem resolution requires thorough evaluation of alternatives that may require originality or ingenuity
Understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, kinematics, or stress analysis
Basic understanding of materials selection and manufacturing methods
Ability to work within general work objectives regarding projects and team goals and use full discretion in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied
Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement principles and techniques to design and manufacturing areas. Familiarity of other related engineering and technical areas
Ability to use standard business applications software and specialized data analysis tools. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and recommend changes to policies and procedures
Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management
Ability to manage engineering projects, communicate status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision
Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
