  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the technical NIDIS Working Groups, comprised of subject matter experts, to integrate the work of the Groups into the DEWS
  • Collaborate in the development of evaluation metrics and assessments to measure the progress, success, and transferability of drought early warning information in the con text of long term planning, preparedness, and resilience efforts by Tribes, states, local governments, and economic sectors
  • Identify and create timely, temporally and spatially relevant web content about the regional drought early warning information systems for the U.S. Drought Portal (drought.gov)
  • Assist NIDIS Program staff in event-planning activities to convene regional and national workshops, outlook forums, trainings, webinars, and conferences
  • Frequent domestic travel required of this position
  • Coordinate, organize, and write strategic work plans, meeting summaries, project reports, and follow-up documentation
  • Serve as a project manager by reviewing, evaluating, and managing project statements of work for a variety of activities being implemented in the regional drought early warning systems
  • Develop/sustain/expand teams of partners who support DEWS activities. Work with regional partners to develop and implement regional DEWS strategic work plans
  • Provide technical support for regional, state, or local drought scenario planning activities, such as drought tabletop exercises or drought simulations used to test drought plans and evaluate risk scenarios
  • B.S./M.S in natural or water resource management, geography, public policy, economic s, communications, or environmental science
  • Mid- to senior-level experience in developing and implementing regional, watershed-scale, or state drought plans, water or land resources management plans, or disaster hazard mitigation plans, and participating in regional, state, or local drought task forces or other similar collaborations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective and cooperative relationships with federal, tribal, state, local agencies and universities. Experience with Tribal partners is highly desired
  • Demonstrated skills in collaborating with the private sector, including industry corporations
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive strategic plans involving a multitude of partner interests
