  • Certification or successful completion of training as a Nursing Assistant or Geriatric Nursing Assistant, EMT and/or Medical Technician (Hospital or Armed Forces) preferred
  • Certified in CPR (must be certified within 3 months of employment)
  • Certification in Crisis intervention and/or management of the violent patient preferred. (Must be trained as such within 6 months of employment)
  • IV insertion and care (Must be trained within 2 months)
  • Knowledge of group interaction and process
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of communication techniques
  • Good observation skills
  • Ability to assess and report for behavioral problems which occur during interpersonal interactions with patients
  • Knowledge of human behavior
  • Ability to motivate patients, through individual and group activities
  • Ability to participate in all team, clinical, group and community meetings
  • Reliable and adaptable to change
  • Ability to work flexible shifts when indicated
  • Compassionate, caring, polite and tactful in relating to others
  • Good judgment in reporting reactions and changes in patient’s condition
  • Ability to function well in crisis situation and make sound decisions
  • Ability to lift, position, and assist on restraining patients according to hospital policy
  • Ability to push wheelchairs, stretchers and to work in an intense environment
  • Basic computer or data entry knowledge desired
