Summary
Wyatt Mould studied to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Founded in 1993, NLC is a private vocational institution providing specialized training for power delivery careers. After completing his studies, he enrolled in the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program, which combines classroom education with hands-on fieldwork. Through this program, he gained practical experience in live-line operations, system troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance while strengthening his understanding of electrical theory and safety standards.
He spent three years working on power lines across Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas, traveling with his team wherever needed to restore power or expand the electrical grid. His fieldwork allowed him to adapt to different environments and weather conditions, building strong teamwork, problem-solving, and safety awareness skills essential in the trade.
During his 15-week pre-apprentice training at NLC, he completed a program that balanced classroom learning with hands-on practice. He studied electrical systems, circuits, voltage, and current, while gaining practical experience in pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and equipment setup. He also received extensive safety instruction in areas such as fall protection, lock-out/tag-out procedures, high-voltage precautions, and the use of personal protective equipment.
As a lineman, he built, repaired, and maintained electrical power transmission and distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines, poles, transformers, and switches. His work required precision and teamwork, and he often performed it in challenging conditions such as storms or high elevations.
He has worked as an excavator at Borden Excavating in St. Calimesa, California, for over three years. His responsibilities include installing water mains and servicing customer meter boxes. During this period, he also completed a two-year construction laborer apprenticeship with AGC in Riverside, California, where he gained experience in trenching, grading, pipe installation, and heavy equipment operation.
He volunteers at Carol’s Kitchen in Riverside, California, where he has contributed over 100 hours helping serve meals to people experiencing homelessness. Guided by his Christian faith and strong family values, he enjoys golf, motorcycling, camping, swimming, skateboarding, and staying active—qualities that reflect Wyatt Mould's integrity and work ethic.
