Thomas Pepin

Thomas Pepin, better known as Tom Pepin, is a Tampa Bay business leader and philanthropist whose work has supported commerce, education, healthcare, and public safety across the region for more than four decades, and is known for steady leadership and consistent community involvement as a former President and CEO of Pepin Distributing Company. During his years leading the organization, he helped grow a major beverage distribution business while also building a strong record of civic engagement and charitable support throughout Tampa Bay.

Tom Pepin returned to Florida after graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont. After completing his education, he joined the family business and began working at Pepin Distributing Company. In 1986, he purchased the company from his father and began guiding the organization into its next phase.

Under his leadership, the company expanded into one of the largest beverage distribution operations in Florida. Over time, the business grew into an enterprise valued at approximately $260 million. The company served as a key distributor for major beverage manufacturers and became known for disciplined operations and reliable service across the region.

While guiding the company’s growth, Tom also made sure that community involvement remained a core part of the organization. Pepin Distributing regularly supported nonprofit groups, civic organizations, and initiatives that assist first responders. These efforts helped show how a privately held company can contribute to the well-being of the community where it operates.

With this support, numerous organizations have hosted events that raised significant funding for their programs. By providing an accessible, well-equipped venue, the center enables nonprofit groups to focus on their missions while reducing event costs. This initiative reflects his belief that philanthropy should create opportunities for others to succeed.

Education has also been an important focus of his work. When families approached him about students struggling in traditional classroom environments, Thomas' family helped support the creation of Pepin Academies. These public charter schools were designed to serve students with learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD.

For more than twenty-five years, Pepin Academies has helped thousands of students through individualized education programs that focus on building confidence, responsibility, and life skills. The schools provide a structured environment where students receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

Healthcare has been another area where he has contributed meaningful support. Through the Pepin Heart Institute, Tom helped fund cardiovascular research, patient care, and education related to heart health. These programs work with healthcare institutions across the Tampa Bay region to improve treatment and public awareness. His work in this area earned recognition as Healthcare Philanthropist of the Year.

Public safety has remained another priority in his community involvement. Thomas has supported programs connected with the Tampa Police Department Chief's Foundation and other law enforcement initiatives. These programs focus on officer wellness, family support, and community outreach. His dedication to these efforts earned him recognition as the Tampa Police Department Citizen of the Year and the twentieth Lightning Community Hero.

Several institutions have recognized his contributions. In 2017, Tom was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame. The Florida Senate has acknowledged his community service on multiple occasions. The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners also recognized his decades of civic commitment. In 2023, Temple Park was renamed in honor of the Pepin family, reflecting their lasting contributions to the region.
