Sam Menzin is a sports executive, entrepreneur, and advisor whose career has been defined by a passion for baseball and a commitment to helping athletes and organizations succeed. As the founder and CEO of Campus Edge Baseball, he has combined his experience in recruiting, player evaluation, and strategic planning to create resources that support student-athletes pursuing college baseball opportunities. His professional background includes leadership roles in baseball operations, player acquisition, contract negotiations, and sports consulting, providing him with experience across many areas of the sports industry.
In 2025, Sam founded Campus Edge Baseball to provide personalized recruiting guidance to student-athletes nationwide. Through the platform, he developed a recruiting infrastructure that includes athlete profiles, coach and school databases, school-match applications, and recruiting strategy tools. As CEO, he manages a wide range of responsibilities, including sales, marketing, website development, social media, client onboarding, analytics, financial tracking, video optimization, and NCAA compliance. He also works closely with baseball showcase events. He maintains direct relationships with coaches from Division I, Division II, Division III, and junior college programs to help athletes improve their recruiting opportunities.
Beyond his work with Campus Edge Baseball, Menzin serves as an analyst with Woods Capital and is the founder and principal of SJM Sports. Through these roles, he advises investors, ownership groups, and private equity firms evaluating sports assets, acquisitions, and operational strategies. His work reflects a strong interest in both the competitive and business aspects of sports, allowing him to contribute to a variety of projects across the industry.
His interest in baseball operations began at a young age and grew stronger after reading Moneyball as a teenager. The book introduced him to the analytical side of the game and inspired a long-term interest in player evaluation, decision-making, and organizational strategy. During his time at Swarthmore College, Sam played four years of varsity baseball and earned the 2012 Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award. While attending college, he also spent two years as Assistant Director at the Complete Game Institute, where he managed the Pitching Biomechanics Facility, coordinated pitching camps, and worked with high-speed video technology.
His professional journey began through internships with several organizations, including the New York Mets, Turner-Gary Sports, and the Detroit Tigers. With the New York Mets, Menzin worked in Corporate Sales, assisting with client relations, corporate activations, stadium tours, and game-day responsibilities. At Turner-Gary Sports, he spent two years in Baseball Operations, supporting salary arbitration preparation, market analysis, statistical evaluation, and free-agent strategy. He also contributed to the design and development of the agency's website. In 2012, he joined the Detroit Tigers as an intern in Baseball Operations, where he assisted with arbitration preparation, negotiation analysis, player recommendations, and trade-related research.
His career with the Detroit Tigers spanned 14 years and included steady advancement through the organization. Starting as an intern, Sam progressed through analyst, coordinator, and director positions before being named Vice President and Assistant General Manager in 2021. In that role, he led teams across scouting, medical, performance, and player experience departments. He played a role in player acquisition efforts, contract negotiations, salary arbitration cases, and capital investment initiatives totaling more than $100 million. He also served as the interim point of contact during a transition involving the President of Baseball Operations.
Menzin earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Swarthmore College and studied abroad in Rome, Italy. He is currently completing an Executive Master of Business Administration at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business and is expected to graduate in 2027. Raised in Westbury, New York, he attended Friends Academy High School before continuing his academic and athletic pursuits.
Outside of work, Sam Menzin maintains interests in baseball leadership, scouting, statistical analysis, sports investments, construction and design projects, and contract negotiations. He also enjoys cooking, running, skiing, biking, yoga, and chess. In 2023, he completed the Detroit Marathon and raised $17,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He has volunteered with NOSH Food Kitchen in Glen Cove, New York, and Mission City in Detroit. Through his leadership, experience, and dedication to athlete development, he continues to support athletes, organizations, and communities throughout the baseball world.
