Born on November 8, 2002, in Rochester, New York, Ryan Gustin has distinguished himself as a committed student of Civil Engineering at Penn State. Known for his dedication to innovation, leadership, and community service, Ryan Gustin Penn State has made significant strides from his early days in Penfield, NY, to his current academic endeavors.
His educational path began at Plank Road North Elementary in Webster, NY, where he actively participated in sports and nurtured a budding interest in technology through Lego robotics. This early engagement in problem-solving and design planted the seeds for his future in engineering.
Progressing to McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, he embraced the school's philosophy of serving others, leading the robotics team to new heights. Under his leadership, the team designed and built a robot that could climb, culminating in a prestigious "Excellence in Engineering" award at competitions. This experience refined his technical skills and bolstered his leadership qualities.
He further developed his technical acumen at high school by operating the school's CNC mill, where he crafted digital designs into physical components. His expertise with CAD software and materials like aluminum and steel prepared him well for the practical demands of engineering.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he was actively involved in the school’s stage crew, managing various aspects of theatrical productions, which sharpened his project management skills. He also balanced his interests in sports and music, particularly excelling as a violinist, which enriched his high school experience.
His commitment to community service is evident through his volunteer work at the House of Mercy Homeless Shelter and the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry. He also committed over 170 hours to Maplewood Nursing Home, demonstrating his dedication to caring for older people and his commitment to positively impacting his community.
Professionally, he gained valuable experience at Oak Hill Country Club and Hedges Nine Mile Point Restaurant, enhancing his customer service and operational skills during significant events, including the 2023 PGA Championship.
At Penn State, he is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Penn State Formula Racing team, applying his academic knowledge to practical engineering challenges. His internship at DDS Companies in the summer of 2023 provided him with hands-on experience in civil engineering, focusing on infrastructure projects.
He is looking forward to graduating in May 2025. He anticipates furthering his career in vibrant urban environments like Miami or New York, where he can contribute to significant infrastructure projects. From his formative years in New York to his academic and professional experiences at Penn State, Ryan Gustin Penn State remains driven by a passion for engineering, a commitment to community service, and a pursuit of excellence in all his endeavors.
