Rex Walrond is a driven student with a passion for neuroscience and a strong foundation in research. Currently studying at a prestigious medical school, he has also contributed to significant work at the McKnight Brain Institute, focusing on the impact of subarachnoid hemorrhages on the development of Alzheimer’s Disease. Rex’s academic journey includes a valuable internship at Romark, a research-based pharmaceutical company in Tampa, Florida. Working under the CEO's and research leaders' guidance, he assisted in developing new therapies for infectious diseases. This internship exposed him to drug discovery and development challenges and allowed him to collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines, enhancing his teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Before beginning his university studies, Rex graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he balanced academic excellence with leadership. As battalion commander of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), he led a group of 150 cadets, learning valuable lessons in leadership, discipline, and team management. He graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and earned honors, including being inducted into the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, setting the stage for his future academic success.

Rex continued his education at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology focusing on Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience. This program allowed him to explore the complex relationship between brain mechanisms and human behavior. Graduating Cum Laude in 2024, he is now looking forward to pursuing advanced research or a career in psychiatry, using his knowledge to contribute to the understanding and treatment of mental health disorders.

In addition to his academic work, Rex is an experienced SCUBA Dive Master. While working with the Florida Parks and Recreation Department, he ensured pool safety and water quality and assisted in water safety instruction. As a certified SCUBA Dive Master, he has led dives and trained others in safe diving practices, ensuring fun and safety underwater.

Rex Walrond is also an avid outdoors enthusiast, participating in skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing activities. He has summited Mount Rainier and completed extensive backpacking trips in some of the most renowned national parks in the U.S., including Yosemite and Glacier. These outdoor adventures have tested his physical endurance and honed his ability to make quick decisions under pressure. Whether skiing down steep slopes or navigating rugged trails, he approaches every challenge with a focus on safety and determination, defining his approach to life.
