Gloss is an acronym for GLObal Settlement System. A London based Financial Software House called Wilco (a subsidiary of ADP), and is used widely throughout the Investment Banking sector produced it. However, BNP PARIBAS version of Gloss is significantly different in many areas from other installations of the software, as it has undergone much proprietary development (100+ man-years). Gloss is a system used to settle trades. This involves pre-settlement functions, the production of Settlement statements (such as faxes and telexes) and the actual settlement of trades with other financial institutions. It also has a General Ledger function, which is able to produce company accounts. It should be noted that GLOSS' role is not restricted to settlement. It is also used for input of trades by the Front Office, Risk Management by the Middle Office, Accounting purposes by the Back Office and for Expense transactions within Tokyo & Hong-KongHuman Resources. We works very closely with London based development teams; providing trade-processing solutions for Equity, Debt and Derivatives trading for BNP Tokyo & Hong-Kong.
