Summary

Mauricio Kalukango, an esteemed Equipment Service Associate at BMW Manufacturing USA, has carved a niche in Industrial Maintenance. His professional journey is marked by extensive experience repairing and enhancing electrical and electromechanical systems for renowned original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). He was born in Botswana but originates from Angola, having moved to the United States with his family in 1982. They chose Atlanta, GA, as their new home, where Mauricio developed a profound interest in aviation, leading him to pursue and complete an Aviation Maintenance course at Atlanta Technical College.

His aviation maintenance career initially faced challenges due to economic setbacks following the 9/11 attacks and the housing market crash. However, his unwavering determination led him to shift his focus to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) technology. This pivotal career move broadened his technical acumen and facilitated his entry into the burgeoning field of machine maintenance.

Mauricio's resilience and hard work earned him positions in major corporations such as Caterpillar Inc. and Pumpingsol. There, he worked with advanced industrial equipment essential for high-speed operations. His roles involved deep engagement with highly technical robotic equipment and automated processes, enriching his understanding of industrial operations.

Born in 1979 amidst the turmoil of the Angolan civil war, his family fled to a refugee camp in Botswana before emigrating to the USA. In Atlanta, his father, a craftsman and construction foreman, imparted the values of diligence and family cohesion. Mauricio thrived in this environment, engaging in various activities at the Carver Eastside Boy's Club and excelling in his high school’s soccer team and student government. He ultimately graduated as Student Body President in 1997.

His academic path led him from Mercer University, where he initially studied Mechanical Engineering, to Atlanta Technical College, driven by his passion for aviation. After obtaining his FAA certification, shifts in industry regulations prompted him to further his education in HVACR at Fortis College, Georgia. This educational pursuit was crucial as it coincided with significant advancements in manufacturing automation, positioning him well within the industry.

Mauricio's career trajectory includes significant stints as an airframe and power plant maintenance technician, transitioning through various technical roles as industry needs evolved post-9/11. His adaptability saw him take on roles at Caterpillar Inc. and later as an Industrial Electrician and Electromechanical Technician with companies like Andersen Windows & Doors and SYSCO Atlanta. His profound expertise in sophisticated control systems and machinery led to his recruitment by BMW in 2018, where he has since been integral to the robotics and automation sectors in their Greenville, SC facility.

On the personal front, Mauricio is a dedicated father of two, maintaining a strong familial connection. His adventurous spirit is reflected in his travels, having visited numerous historical sites in Egypt and experienced the rich landscapes of Colombia and the Dominican Republic. These experiences underscore his passion for cultural exploration and adventure.

Mauricio Kalukango's life and career epitomize resilience, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, underscoring his significant contributions to industrial maintenance and beyond.
