Summary
Julie Hau is a photo editor/photographer from Dusseldorf, Germany currently calling Brooklyn, New York home. She studied photography at Albrecht-Duerer-Schule Dusseldorf where she graduated in 2005 before becoming a studio manager for acclaimed commercial photographer Michael Ricks. She moved to New York City in 2007 and was a graduate of the documentary and photojournalism program at the International Center of Photography.
Since graduating, Julie's documentary work brought her to Abkhazia in 2008 where she documented the de-facto countries 15-years of independence from Georgia to covering the Ukrainian elections during the winter of 2010 while also focusing on Ukraine's growing group of orphaned children, a result of their destabilizing economy following the economic collapse of 2008.
Julie is currently the art intern at Harpers Magazine, studying under Stacey Clarkson while assisting editorial and commercial photographers, working to transition her skills from a photographer to a photo editor. Her editorial work has been awarded by the Magenta Foundation and she still continues to shoot her own documentary work.
