In November 2003, he joined Iberia Financial Services, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of IBERIABANK, where he served as Senior Vice President. During this period, investment and insurance products and services were offered through Infinex Investments, Inc., a registered broker-dealer and Member FINRA/SIPC. From 1999 through 2020, he maintained a 20-year record of being named to the Circle of Excellence at Iberia Financial Services. He was also recognized multiple times as one of the Top 50 Bank Investment Consultants, reflecting consistent performance over an extended period.

A defining chapter of his career followed Hurricane Katrina, which caused widespread disruption across the region. During this time, he worked closely with clients who were facing financial uncertainty while also rebuilding their personal lives. On May 8, 2009, he was recognized by American Banker as part of a top advisory team alongside his brother, Ron Barreca.

Following organizational changes, Joseph Barreca continued serving as Senior Vice President at First Horizon Advisors from November 2003 through October 2024. His work focused on providing investment advisory services to clients throughout the Greater New Orleans region, often working with multiple generations within the same families.

In October 2024, Joseph Barreca joined Wells Fargo Advisors, where he continues to focus on holistic wealth management.
