Summary

John Tracy is an artist, photographer, and curator currently living and working out of Los Angeles, California. He has been active in the art and entertainment world for over twenty years. Starting at a young age, John always had an eye for photography, shooting on film, and developing his own prints. As a teenager, John grew up skateboarding and painting street art in the Boston area.

John has utilized his talent and creativity paired with his relentless work ethic, determination, and originality to work on a wide array of projects and exhibits. While living between Los Angeles and New York, he started his career in cinematography, traveling the world filming shows for the jazz-influenced hip hop group, Gangstarr lead by now deceased rapper-hip hop artist Guru. John went on to successfully venture into several other creative fields, working as a photographer, painter, filmmaker, producer, DJ, and actor.

John has established himself as both a popular artist and curator. He was a featured artist during the 2011 exhibition of “Come In! 2: Surf. Skate. Bike.,” at the Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles. Also in 2011, working closely with friend Shepard Fairey, one of the most renowned figures in American street art, to curate the first version of John’s Sk8 Art St. exhibit at Suede Studios in Los Angeles. The exhibit was featured on the cover of the Santa Monica Daily Press.

John started growing a global presence when he curated the wildly successful 2013 rendition of Sk8 Art St. at the Atzaro Hotel Ibiza in Spain during the “Urban in Ibiza 2013: Sons of Warhol” event, featuring John’s art and works from Fairey and others. John is also the Resident Artist at the storied Lexington Hotel in New York, where Joe DiMaggio maintained a residence during his eighteen seasons with the Yankees and lived with his wife, Marilyn Monroe, during their marriage. The hotel has also hosted famous dignitaries and guests from President Bill Clinton to Jennifer Lopez, and it served as home to the Playboy Club. John was chosen by Paige Powell, celebrated photographer, art consultant and curator, confidant of Andy Warhol, and the ex-girlfriend of famous artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, to be the Resident Artist during a 46 million dollar remodeling. The remodeling was led by acclaimed designer David Ashen of the Lexington’s Autograph Collection Hotel, who worked with John to develop the thematic approach with photography pieces specifically designed for the property’s elegant, Jazz Age atmosphere. John’s art is featured in every suite and guest room, including the Ella Fitzgerald “Lady Ella Suite," the Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio "Centerfield Suite,” the Ernest Hemingway Suite, and the Arthur Godfrey Suite.

John closed out 2014 with the creation of a mural for the entrance of the Rathskeller suite at the newly remodeled Hotel Commonwealth in Boston, the official hotel of the Boston Red Sox. The Rathskeller suite is an upscale retro room paying homage to Kenmore Square’s iconic past and underground music venue known as “THE RAT”. The suite has boldly reinterpreted rock n roll inspirations with an eye toward luxury. It makes for a suitably eclectic mix of John’s graffiti, mixing assorted materials, textures, and memorabilia as well as custom furniture with a backstage tour aesthetic.

Following the completion of the mural for the Commonwealth, John returned to Hollywood to paint exclusive paintings commissioned for Pamela Anderson and Sam Simon, co-creator of the Simpson’s, before his untimely passing from cancer.
