Summary

James Burleson has dedicated more than three decades to building a career that blends finance, entrepreneurship, and community service. Over the years, he has developed businesses, managed investments, and supported ventures that demonstrate both innovation and long-term planning. Just as important, he has consistently prioritized community involvement and philanthropy, ensuring that his professional success is complemented by meaningful service.

His interest in financial markets took shape early in his life. At 24, James became one of the youngest seat holders and market makers on the Pacific Stock Exchange. His leadership was quickly recognized, leading to his election as the youngest Chair of the Nominating Committee for the Board of Governors. These milestones distinguished him in a demanding industry. He later advanced into senior roles with firms such as Letco LMM, Joseph D. Heard Jr. Inc., Premier Trading Group, and Charles Schwab. During his time as Partner and Lead Market Maker at Letco, he helped strengthen the firm until its sale to Toronto Dominion Bank in 2002. His skill in derivatives and trading strategies became a defining element of his professional foundation.

In 2004, he launched Burleson + Company, an independent advisory firm that expanded to manage nearly $800 million in assets under management. The firm gained recognition for its focus on comprehensive financial planning, which emphasized both long-term objectives and investment returns. He also expanded his reach with Northern Peak Consulting, guiding both individuals and businesses on growth and strategy. His entrepreneurial vision further extended into venture capital with BCo Venture Fund I, which backed early-stage companies. One highlight of this work was an investment in Pathwater, a bottled water brand that introduced sustainable practices to the consumer market.

Community service has been an integral part of his life for decades. For nearly twenty years, he has been active on the Sonoma–Marin Fair Board, supporting agricultural education, youth programs, and cultural initiatives. James also spent more than a decade with the Rotary Club of Petaluma, serving as Treasurer of its foundation. Additionally, he has dedicated over two decades of service to the St. Vincent Parish Finance Committee and supported education as a board member of St. Vincent High School. His commitment further extends to organizations such as the Petaluma Educational Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Polly Klaas Foundation, where he has given time and resources for more than 25 years.

Raised in a military family, he developed a strong sense of discipline, adaptability, and a commitment to service. After earning a finance degree from the University of Texas at Austin, he maintained lasting connections with his alma mater and fraternity, Sigma Chi. Away from his professional responsibilities, he enjoys skiing with his children, golfing in the Utah mountains, traveling, and continuing to follow the stock market.

James Burleson’s story reflects how knowledge, leadership, and service can work together to create lasting impact. His career demonstrates consistent growth in business and entrepreneurship, while his community efforts and family values reveal a dedication to building a meaningful legacy rooted in responsibility and purpose.
