Summary
Erika Mackinnon has built a strong and consistent career in medical sales over the past five years. Her areas of expertise include business development, strategic planning, revenue optimization, market research and analysis, sales forecasting, product presentations, account management, and maintaining client relationships. Since 2020, she has worked in medical device sales, with a specialized focus on Spine. As a Spine Specialist and Sales Associate, she is involved in operating room procedures daily, supporting surgical teams with real-time product knowledge and guidance.
Her journey into the medical sales field began with completing a 440-hour postgraduate program at Medical Sales College in Sarasota, Florida. Erika earned certification in Spine, Orthopedic Reconstruction, and Trauma. She gained essential skills in regenerative medicine, orthopedic and trauma devices, dynamic consultative selling, and techniques to support territory expansion and business growth.
Through this intensive training, Mackinnon deeply understood spine, biologics, orthopedic reconstruction, trauma, and sports medicine. She also studied anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics, orthobiologics, and medical terminology. Her exposure to operating room environments and hospital systems allowed her to learn how to effectively identify provider needs and communicate product benefits during critical moments in clinical settings.
While pursuing her certification, Erika began her professional journey as a Sales Associate with SS Fusion Medica in Tampa, Florida. There, she helped cover specific sales territories, scheduled meetings with physicians and medical staff, and built strong professional relationships across clinical and administrative teams.
After a year, she joined Globus Medical in Memphis, Tennessee. Over the last four years, Erika has contributed to organizational goals by growing market presence, supporting providers, and assisting in a range of surgical procedures, including ACDF, PCF, TLIF, PLIF, ALIF, lateral lumbar interbody fusion, and deformity-related spine surgeries.
Mackinnon graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 2016. Her early career included working as a Chief Legislative Intern for the Florida Senate, where she drafted briefings, tracked legislation, and met with various stakeholders such as constituents, nonprofits, and lobbyists. She later worked as a junior lobbyist and political fundraiser, expanding her understanding of government relations and public policy.
Erika continued her professional development as a Business Development Analyst at GSSP in Stamford, Connecticut. She conducted policy analysis, supported strategic business planning, managed logistics for real estate and tax equity transactions, and worked closely with senior leadership. Following that role, she served as Deputy Finance Director at The O’Rourke Group, responsible for donor outreach, relationship building, and securing support for political and nonprofit initiatives.
Her certifications include the AdvaMed Code of Ethics, HIPAA, Aseptic Technique and Infection Control, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety, Fire Safety, National Patient Safety, and Protocol Certification, all of which support her credibility and readiness in medical environments.
Outside her professional life, Mackinnon has a deep passion for interior design. After purchasing her home, she transformed the space by blending traditional, vintage, and modern elements. She enjoys restoring antique items and designing functional, visually appealing interiors. Though currently a personal interest, she is open to pursuing it further.
As a mother of two, Erika also enjoys cooking and is known for creating both flavorful and visually thoughtful meals. Cooking provides a meaningful outlet that combines creativity with quality family time.
She is committed to giving back through her support of the Salvation Army and the Humane Society, contributing to causes that help individuals in need and promote animal welfare.
Erika Mackinnon continues to grow in her medical sales career while balancing her passions, family life, and dedication to serving the community.
