Dr. Jahmal Mosley brings over 20 years of experience in educational leadership across all three levels of education. He has served as a special education teacher, building administrator, central office administrator, and director of academics. Dr. Mosley is a certified Special Education Administrator and has extensive experience designing and assessing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to address the diverse needs of students, including those with speech, language, intellectual, hearing, emotional, and physical impairments.
Dr. Mosley earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts, known for its top-tier academic programs and innovative research. His doctoral dissertation, Perceptions of Principal Attributes in an Era of Accountability, was published in the Journal of School Leadership and was selected for presentation at the American Educational Research Association Conference. This recognition highlighted his research’s contributions to educational administration and policy, marking him as a thought leader in the field.
A firm believer in educational equity, Dr. Mosley advocates for creating environments where all students, regardless of background, can succeed. He emphasizes the importance of eliminating barriers to success and promoting academic and social programming that helps all students reach their potential. His work consistently focuses on eliminating predictability in educational outcomes and promoting systems that elevate student achievement across the board.
Dr. Mosley’s educational journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1997, where he focused on African-American History and Psychology. This foundation has been integral to his understanding of student motivations and the social factors that shape student success. His passion for teaching led him to a Master of Science in Education from Wheelock College in 1998, specializing in Special Needs/Elementary and Middle School Education. Dr. Mosley later earned his Doctorate in Education Administration, Policy, and Research from UMass-Amherst in 2010.
In addition to his academic degrees, Jahmal Mosley has enriched his expertise through international research. He studied the educational systems of other nations at Harvard University, culminating in a research trip to China. His work there explored the relationship between educational reform and improvements in student achievement, providing valuable insights into global educational practices.
Dr. Mosley holds multiple certifications essential to educational administration, including Principal and Assistant Principal certifications for various grade levels, as well as Special Education Administrator certifications. He also has teaching certifications in High School, Middle School, and Elementary Special Education, as well as Elementary and Middle School Education.
With a focus on special education, Dr. Mosley is a licensed special education administrator with a deep commitment to serving students who face learning barriers. He is a longstanding member of the NextGen Project, which uses emerging technologies to address learning deficiencies. Additionally, Dr. Mosley has shared his expertise with aspiring special education leaders, advising them on best practices in school districts and federal agencies.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mosley has excelled in educational leadership roles. As Director of Academics at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, he oversees the curriculum and student achievement goals. His leadership extends to fostering parent engagement and monitoring district initiatives. As Superintendent of South Hadley Public Schools, he spearheaded the implementation of both in-person and distance learning strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the community’s educational needs.
Dr. Mosley’s leadership has also extended to his work as Superintendent of Nashua Public Schools, where he managed a $177 million budget and directed a comprehensive five-year strategic plan. His tenure at Sharon Public Schools involved overseeing curricular reviews and professional development workshops, as well as managing teacher contracts and state grants. As Principal of Somerset Berkley Regional High School, he led the school from a Level 2 to a Level 1 designation, aligning the curriculum with Common Core standards and implementing professional development programs.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Jahmal Mosley is committed to giving back to the community. He actively supports organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and NAACP, providing safe spaces for young people. He also contributes to the Salvation Army, helping address the needs of unhoused and vulnerable populations and ensuring that those facing crises have access to shelter, meals, and support.
