Summary

Dr. Kamran Massoumi, MD, is an ophthalmologist and the owner and president of the Oklahoma Eye Institute and Omni Surgical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Born in 1967 in Tehran, Iran, he comes from a family with significant political and medical backgrounds. His paternal grandfather was a prominent military officer and politician, serving as the Minister of Agriculture under the Shah’s regime. On his mother’s side, He is a descendant of Iranian royalty, with his maternal grandfather being only three generations removed from the King of Iran. Despite his family’s political ties, his grandfather’s pioneering work in ophthalmology led Him to pursue the same field.

His grandfather is widely regarded as a pioneer of Iranian ophthalmology. He established the country’s first ophthalmology department and addressed the trachoma pandemic that caused millions to become blind. His grandfather’s legacy profoundly influenced Him, who, by age five, had decided to dedicate his life to improving vision care.

In 1983, during the Iran-Iraq War, Dr. Massoumi moved to the United States with his mother and younger sister. They settled in Marin County, California, where He quickly adapted to his new environment, learning English and adjusting to American culture. After completing high school at Marin Catholic High School, He attended the University of California, Berkeley, earning a double major in Medical Physics and Middle Eastern Studies. His dedication and academic excellence earned him a spot at St. Louis University Medical School, where he graduated with distinction in research. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.

After finishing his residency, Kamran Massoumi initially planned to return to California. However, a shortage of ophthalmologists in Western Oklahoma led him to join the BVA practice in 2002. Motivated by his grandfather’s commitment to public service, he stayed in Oklahoma, where he began transforming eye care in the region. Over the years, he introduced cutting-edge technology, expanded specialized services, and founded the Oklahoma Eye Institute in 2014. This institute brought specialized services such as retinal and plastic surgery to the region, and He continues to offer advanced treatments for cataracts, glaucoma, and laser procedures.

In addition to founding the Oklahoma Eye Institute, Dr. Massoumi recognized the need for local surgical facilities. He opened the Omni Surgical Center in Lawton and an office-based operating room in Elk City. These facilities reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for surgical care. His long-term vision is to attract more ophthalmologists to Western Oklahoma, ensuring the region remains self-sufficient in its vision care needs.

He is also passionate about his personal life. He is married and has two daughters, both involved in martial arts. The family holds black belts in Taekwondo, and his youngest daughter has earned a second-degree black belt. He enjoys traveling and has participated in medical mission trips, including one to Vietnam, where he performed eye surgeries to restore vision to people in need.

Dr. Kamran Massoumi’s work has impacted the availability and quality of ophthalmology services in Western Oklahoma. Through his efforts, the region has become self-sufficient in meeting its vision care needs. His dedication to improving access to care ensures that patients in the area can receive world-class treatments without traveling to major cities. As he continues to expand his practice, He remains committed to providing high-quality care and maintaining his legacy in Western Oklahoma’s healthcare landscape.
