Dr. James Frizzell is a dentist based in Canada who has owned and operated Frizzell Dental for more than 20 years. His family's cosmetic dental practice serves communities including Niagara Falls, Ontario; Welland; St. Catharines; and Niagara-on-the-Lake. In addition to providing dental care, he is also engaged in advocacy and education related to abuse awareness and human trafficking.
He completed his studies at the University of Toronto, earning a BSc in Organic/Inorganic Chemistry and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. During his time there, Dr. James received an NSERC scholarship in the Department of Chemistry and carried out research under the supervision of a professor. The research conducted during that period, together with colleagues' work, was published in the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. In 1997, he attended a college in Ajax, Ontario, where he earned a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies. In 2019, he completed a degree in Dental Forensics from a university in Montreal. Throughout the years, he has also taken many courses covering topics such as mental health and suicide skill training, digital crime scene photography, civil litigation workshops, strangulation prevention, and other related areas.
At his dental practice, he and his team offer dental hygiene services, restorative dentistry, cosmetic teeth whitening, emergency dental treatment, and preventive dental care. Preventive services include periodontal therapy, sealants, tooth extraction, routine periodontal care, fluoride applications, and other treatments. Cosmetic options available at the clinic include a Zoom in-office whitening system, bonding, tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays and onlays, and dental implants. Patient reviews often highlight the clinic's care and welcoming environment.
Frizzell also served for eight years as a Military Dental Officer with the Canadian Forces Dental Corps. During this period, he helped ensure soldiers were dentally fit during the Gulf Wars. The Base Commander at Cold Lake Air Base in Alberta recognized his work.
Outside dentistry, he focuses on identifying and preventing child abuse, elderly abuse, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence. In August 2025, he published the book “Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking. From a Canadian Perspective.” He also co-founded Dentists United Against Human Trafficking, which works to educate dental professionals to recognize and respond to signs of trafficking. In January 2026, he and a colleague published the article “What’s Happening in Ontario: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting” in the Oral Health Journal. He also serves as a Human Trafficking Consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara.
Dr. James frequently gives online presentations and appears on podcasts for forensic nurses and healthcare professionals on subjects such as child abuse recognition and reporting, domestic violence, human trafficking victims, suicide forensics, identifying oral and facial signs of abuse, and cannabis addiction. His knowledge of bruising and bitemark analysis has also been used in court cases. He has been a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology for the last seven years and is also a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
He volunteers with Crime Stoppers Niagara to help raise funds and meets with grape orchard temporary workers from Mexico and Cuba each summer. He also sings hymns in nursing homes and previously operated a charity dental clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 2010 to 2011. Dr. James Frizzell was born in Toronto and lives in Niagara Falls with his wife and their three children. He enjoys musky fishing in the upper Niagara River.
