Vice President, Human Resources 2013 - Present

Executive responsible for global, corporate and subsidiary human resource functions for two types of businesses (Manufacturing and R&D), located in three different locations. Primarily responsible for creating and overseeing the strategy and implementation of the company’s core values and global business goals using field-tested and creative solutions in the areas of: Organizational diagnostics, organizational design, transition and change management, culture development, strategic-workforce planning, diversity, leader capability, employee relations, benefits, compensation, payroll, physical and cyber security, and interior building facilities.

  • Developed and implemented Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s Core Values for the organization, leading a ground-up effort from the employees to leadership, which shaped the company, its employees and its leaderships behaviors and created commonality at all levels.
  • Oversaw and led the development and implementation of new and strategic Human Resource systems including, but not limited to: Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Payroll Systems, Talent Tracking System, Headcount Tracking System, and Learning and Development System.
  • Developed and led the implementation of a multi-year workforce plan for entry level positions including: creating a STEM program for middle and high school students to gain interest in high-tech manufacturing, creating a high school internship program, enlarging the college internship program by 88% over three years, and improving the College Orientation Program for new college graduates improving the retention of new hires by 72% in three years.
  • Oversaw the implementation of the diversity and inclusion strategy at Samsung Austin Semiconductor by creating employee-led affinity groups for women, military and LGBT groups on-site.
  • Executive leader and key contributor for North America Region on the Global Human Resources Innovation Task Force team led by Samsung Electronics Korea focused on creating global policies, global compensation structures, shared service centers and global systems.
  • Led the Human Resources strategy converting Samsung Austin Semiconductor from an IDM to Foundry business, including hiring and integrating new leadership.
  • Oversaw the design and implementation of all interiors, cafeterias, on-site gyms, and work areas for the new $2 billion-dollar office building expansion.
  • Created, implemented and oversaw the multi-year healthcare strategy providing the company with single digit annual increases for eight years in a row, saving the organization over $28 million dollars.
  • Oversaw the development of formal Executive coaching from professors at the University of Texas for Directors and above.

Senior Director, Human Resources 2008 – 2013

Advise and collaborate with senior business VP’s and leaders on creation and implementation of business strategy and organizational transformation imperatives necessary to accelerate business results.

  • Oversaw and led factory closure and reduction of 700 employees over four-month period, with no EEOC or legal claims.
  • Oversaw and led the Human Resources function of the factory start-up, rehiring over 1/3 of the reduced employees, and completing ramp hiring of 600 employees in five-month period.
  • North America Region HR leader for the SEA Benefits committee, Compensation Committee, and the Investment Benefit Committee Chair running two 401(k) plans for the region of North America.
  • Oversaw and led the change in benefit carriers from CIGNA to United Healthcare, MetLife to Prudential, and outsourcing of Leave of Absence process.
  • Created and implemented University of Texas Samsung Certificate program for Managers in Leadership, creating 10 courses with the McCombs Business School.
  • Implemented and oversaw Employee Engagement Committee which makes recommendations to leadership on changes and improvements that need to be made, such as creating a website for areas of interest groups, adding shuttle services in the parking lots for employees, improving meeting areas for employees, improving maternity leave and paternity leaves.

Director, Human Resources 2006 – 2008

HR Director responsible for developing HR strategy and overseeing implementation of said strategy in the areas of: Employee Relations, organizational health, talent planning and acquisition, compensation, benefits.

  • Led the strategy and hiring ramp for the $9 Billion-dollar new fabrication plant which opened in July 2007. Hiring over 1200 employees in one-year period, for the start-up of new fabrication plant.
  • Created and implemented an Early Retirement program for the organization, to assist in opening headcount for the organization in 2008, used every three years continually.
  • Manage vendor contracts for talent acquisition, direct contractors, and all benefit plans.
  • Implemented KPI’s tied to the business goals for the HR team of Samsung Austin Semiconductor and reported to all employee on company intranet site on a quarterly basis for transparent communication.
  • Improved internal communications with leadership by starting “Things You Need to Know”, a weekly HR newsletter to leaders advising of key items coming from Human Resources.
