Summary
Bruno Amezcua's entry into the world of film and visual arts was heavily influenced by his grandfather, a revered film editor active from the 1950s through the 1970s. This early mentorship gave him a strong foundation in film production, editing, and the arts, sparking his interest in storytelling. Motivated by this influence, he pursued a formal education in the arts, underpinning a successful 15-year career in various creative roles.
A prominent figure in the industry, Bruno, known for his expertise as a Hispanic-Canadian animator and camera unit director, has contributed to acclaimed films including "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3" (2023), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" (2011), and "Next Gen" (2018). His professional focus is on CG (computer-generated) camera work and photography in film and television, and he is also skilled in staging, storyboarding, classic illustration, and artistic drawing.
His projects often reflect his lifelong interest in drawing and storytelling, passions he has nurtured since childhood. These skills are evident in his ability to collaborate effectively with filmmakers, helping them bring their visions to life on screen.
Educationally, Bruno boasts a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City and pursued further training in life drawing at the Museo Gregorio Prieto in Ciudad Real, Spain. He continued his education in Ontario, Canada, at the Centennial College of Fine Arts and Technology, graduating with honors in 2008. His academic journey was distinguished by a graduate scholarship for Outstanding International Student and recognition for the highest academic score in his faculty, reflecting a curriculum that heavily emphasized the integration of digital art with classical training in drawing, painting, and sculpting.
Bruno's career has been marked by collaborations with major studios like Blue Sky, Disney, Marvel, Netflix, and Amazon, where he has applied his skills in various capacities, from previsualization to layout supervision. His contributions to the field have been recognized with multiple accolades, including three acknowledgments at the 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards for his animation, layout, and lighting/compositing work on "Lost in OZ: Extended Adventure."
Today, he continues to advance his career as a Senior Previs Artist at The Third Floor studio in Los Angeles, California, and as a Previs Supervisor at a videogame startup in Toronto, Ontario. Beyond his professional commitments, he dedicates time to developing his intellectual properties and supports various charitable causes, including Autism Canada and Friends In Toronto (FIT) Community Service. He also contributes to social initiatives, such as producing art for campaigns against gang violence in Toronto.
Bruno Amezcua remains a dedicated visual artist and storyteller whose career is a tribute to the profound influence of his early family mentorship and his enduring commitment to his craft and community.
