Anais was raised in Los Angeles and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. During her time at UCLA, she was actively involved in student government, serving as one of fourteen council members tasked with representing over 30,000 undergraduate students. She championed initiatives related to social justice, accessibility to higher education, and mental health services for veterans. In addition to leading a team of 40 volunteers, she moderated a significant political debate among U.S. House of Representatives candidates.
After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Anais pursued further education at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she earned a Master of Science in 2020. Her graduate studies focused on multimedia journalism, culminating in a 5,000-word master’s thesis on resetting a Syrian refugee family in the U.S. This project was supplemented by a published article about her family’s historical escape from genocide and a video project concerning medication-assisted recovery.
