  • Transferred from IT to become the Lyve Cloud Operations Lead, and drive strategy and direction for this new business unit of Seagate offering public K8s based Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS).
  • Took leadership responsibility to support Lyve Cloud Operations:
    • Service Availability (5 9s SLA & SLO), management and control of the production environment.
    • Hands-on involvement in production releases, change management, incidents/problems tracking and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reporting
    • End-to-end monitoring/logging/alerting of all components, vulnerability & system patch management, backup & restore, scheduled/unscheduled downtime notifications, identity and access management, and all other operational aspects.
  • Built Lyve Cloud Operations processes, headcount, systems, tools, budget, and roadmap from the ground up. Important achievements in these areas were:
    • Set-up and scaled the 24 x 7 Network Operations Center for Cloud Operations support with resources in US, Singapore and India. This team also had Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) specialists.
    • Used open-source tools Prometheus & Grafana for cluster monitoring, GitLab for production releases.
    • Deployed state-of-the-art cloud event-based system monitoring and alerting process using SolarWinds, Opsgenie, Pingdom, ML based anomaly analyzer Zebrium (also used for long term log retention).
    • Incident Management using Jira Service Management, ELK stack for system logging and troubleshooting, statuspage.io for downtime notifications to customers and a Known Error Database using Confluence.

  • Planned and executed the program for end-to-end set-up of on-prem IT infrastructure at the new Seagate Fremont facility from blueprint stage to completion, over a two-year period (from 2014 to 2016)
    • Set-up 3 data centers, Factory Pilot Line, 350 seat event center, 20 conference rooms, 10 IDFs, 25 R&D labs.
  • Implemented a data center Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) project on the AWS platform, saving $100K+ on premise DR infrastructure cost.
    • Served as the site IT Business Continuity Lead and took part in several DR drills.
    • Implemented Everbridge emergency mass notification tool at the site for ensuring business continuity.
  • Deployed a Hadoop Data Lake that ingests (edge) factory data to enable Machine Learning (ML) based defect reduction using image analytics.
    • Saved ~$150K capex by leveraging data lake infrastructure in Singapore instead of the US.
    • The data lake project used a new Seagate product called Lyve Drive, a modular mobile data storage drive-based system that was used to physically transfer hard-disk image data from US to Singapore.

    • This involved data center management, network and firewall services, end user services, R&D pilot line and labs endpoints support.
  • Also led the IT Support team for Seagate's Cloud Systems and Electronics Solutions (CSES) team based at Lakeview Blvd., Fremont.
    • Managed the team's data center, supported the network for design and verification labs, provided end-user support.
  • Successfully led the closure process of IT Operations at Seagate's Milpitas (California) manufacturing facility in 2008 and the transition of manufacturing operations and factory systems to Seagate’s Singapore facility.
  • Provided technical and managerial direction for the development and implementation of an in-house Factory Information System (FIS), developed to meet company specific needs.
    • My development team consisted of ~20 members in US & Singapore.

IT Senior Manager (March 1998 - August 2005)

Led development and deployment of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for in-house use at Seagate's Recording Media Operations facilities at Fremont and Singapore. Developed and implemented supporting applications for product containment, finished goods tracking, statistical process control, etc.

With the advent of web programming, my team was responsible for migrating these factory applications from client-server to web-based applications in the .Net and Java/J2EE environments.

During this period, I was also involved in the Y2K conversion of these applications, as well as their underlying message bus for the factory application clients from hub-and-spoke model based Talarian to peer-to-peer model based TIBCO Rendezvous solution.

IT Senior Engineer (August 1996 - March 1998)

Led the design and development of in-house Factory Information System (FIS) called EDCS-PARIS. The job involved developing and implementing the lot tracking system (also known as MES). that was suited to Seagate's manufacturing needs.

The major components of the MES were: Work-in-progress (WIP) tracking, Equipment Tracking and Maintenance Scheduling, Consumable Tracking, Floor Planning, Calibration Scheduling, and Spares Tracking. This was implemented using a message bus called Talarian.
