Envision Physician Services is a leading provider of physician services for emergency departments, inpatient physician services, inpatient radiology management programs, acute care surgery and anesthesiology services. We have an excellent opportunity for a Vice President of Operations to join our team!
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President Operations is responsible for the overall business operations and general management of a designated Operating Unit (OU) within the Physician Services organization. Provides development and execution of the OU operational plan, strategic plan, integration of acquisitions and organic growth. Responsible for the financial performance of the OU, client management, and management of internal client operations employees. Leads multiple projects by providing leadership and executing contract initiatives. Jointly accountable for the profitability of the OU through client retention, upgrades, pricing of OU contracts, and other overall strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic
• Work in concert with Service Line operations SVP to evaluate the effectiveness of the OU, including assessing its ability to meet the company’s mission, vision and long term strategic goals.
• Establish an appropriate structure to meet the strategic needs of the OU and ensure that the OU structure is adaptable and can evolve as needed.
• Lead the generation of clinical and economic insights, understand the market dynamics necessary to build and provide clinical and OU support.
Financial
• Collaborate with Finance and clinical leaders in completing and implementing annual budgets and updated forecasts.
• Effectively manage financial performance by establishing appropriate methods and processes to monitor expenses, including budgets and financial reviews.
• Monitor monthly financial performance of all sites within the OU. Compile reports, track performance, lead meetings and keep business leaders informed of status, issues, and risks associated with each contract.
• Evaluate contract service delivery, profit and loss, recommend and renegotiate changes to staffing models and/or or increases to hospital subsidies as required.
• Coordinate with OU financial liaison who has responsibility for conducting analysis of contract profitability and identification of trends based on information from Revenue Cycle Management. Participate with financial liaison in monthly operations review with corporate office with emphasis on underperforming contracts.
• Establish appropriate mechanisms to explain and correct variances from budget, including the most appropriate methods of communicating financial information to key internal stakeholders.
Business Development, Acquisitions & Organic Growth
• Provide senior management oversight and accountability for the OU effectiveness of new and existing contract initiatives. Participate in the organic growth due diligence process by reviewing and understanding proformas and the financial impact of new start up facilities.
• Assist Business Development as needed by participating in business development meetings, providing required specialty-specific information, identifying target providers within and outside of local market, obtaining and disseminating pertinent information, or serving as key contact in current facilities or offices related to cross-selling or expansion of services.
• Assist in evaluating sales opportunities; provide review and approval of pro-forma and new business in conjunction with the Finance team.
• Establish processes to ensure the effective operationalization of organic growth contracts and acquisitions. Ensure proper assignment of Client Administration teams to acclimate new providers and groups to the organization. Implement standard work, establish budgets and ongoing assessment and recalibration of new business.
• Assist in the collaborative integration with partner Physician Services service lines within the OU.
Client Management
• Work in concert with Regional Support Center (RSC) and clinical and operational leadership to communicate and support client needs and to ensure contractual obligations are met or exceeded in the most cost effective manner.
• Serve as primary point of contact with the RSC to ensure providers are on boarded in accordance with established and agreed upon service levels within OU.
• Provide overall direction and leadership to the OU division client administration team consisting of Directors of Operations and Practice Managers.
• Ensure effective, on schedule, on budget, project and client/product implementation and delivery.
• Build relationships with client hospital personnel and contracting physicians. Coordinate and/or resolve issues, and conflicts related to contract implementation.
• Design and implement methods to assess client satisfaction for facilities, providers, patients, and other key stakeholders on a regular basis, including time frames, communication mechanisms, and strategies to improve.
• Collaborate with partner clinical executive or clinical team to effectively respond to feedback from clients.
People Management
• Hire, train, mentor employees (Directors of Operations), conduct performance evaluations, counsel and provide disciplinary actions to assigned personnel if required, and work to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results. Responsible for compliance with and enforcement of company/department policies and procedures.
• Interact with Business Development Team, OU EVP, Regional Medical Directors, Site Medical Directors, Client Services, Practice Improvement, Regional Support Centers, Finance Management, Legal, IT, RCM and Human Resources regularly requiring a strong sense of urgency, ability to quickly and accurately convey and obtain information, and move processes forward as appropriate.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and clinical executives in establishing processes to develop clinical and operational leaders, including implementation of learning and development activities and building talent pipelines.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from a four year College or University. Master's degree in health-related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
• Minimum 10 years previous management experience, in the area of healthcare operations of significant size with direct supervisory and P&L responsibilities. Physician practice management, contract services and/or healthcare management in a high volume multi-site/multi regional healthcare practice required.
• Experience negotiating complex contracts.
• Experience with Trauma, Elective, and Orthopedic services is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of healthcare systems and hospital contracts.
• Understanding of physician employment and compensation models that anticipates obstacles, pro-actively seeks out opportunities to improve efficiency, and champions initiatives to drive excellence, profitability and strong client relationships.
• Travel up to 50% of the time may be required.
• In-depth understanding of the healthcare industry and its evolving trends.
• Understanding of healthcare billing, coding and managed care principles.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, leadership and management skills.
• Proven track record of meeting deadlines, solving problems and functioning in a fast-paced, complex environment.
