PRIMARY DUTIES:
The Director of Athletics oversees administrative functions, operations and all athletic programs at Northwest Missouri State University according to the policies of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In reporting to the president, the Director of Athletics also serves as a member of the Northwest Leadership Team and strategic planning council.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Leads the University’s Division II athletic program according to policies established by the institution, the MIAA and the NCAA.
2.In addition to administrative oversight, provides overall vision and strategic thought for athletics tied to the University’s overall mission and strategy as well as that of the MIAA and the NCAA’s DII Strategic Platform.
3.Serves as the key external voice for University athletics and as such, provides key oversight of student-athlete academic success and compliance functions.
4.Works collaboratively with the Faculty Athletics Representative to ensure academic excellence and provides oversight in collaborative work with the Student Athlete Success program.
5.Provides overall people management functions related to coaches, administrative and support personnel and provides for an environment of leadership development.
6.Provides oversight for appropriate fiscal management and facilities operations as well as long-term planning of such.
7.In working with the athletics administrative team and coaches, coordinates with the office of external relations to ensure effective and integrated fundraising, marketing, media relations, sponsorships and alumni relationships are in place and are being assessed and improved in continuous fashion.
8.Works collaboratively with the School of Health Science and Wellness as well as Student Affairs (intramural/recreation program, club sports) and all portfolios within Northwest’s leadership structure.
9.Interfaces with the NCAA, MIAA and other affiliated organizations as appropriate.
10.Demonstrates abilities in the following leadership competencies: Thinks and Acts Strategically; Gets Results Through Self and Others; Builds University Capabilities; and Models the Northwest Way, including those competencies associated with: a strategic mindset, driving results, using business insight, instilling trust, valuing differences, collaborating and displaying courage.

12.Reports to the President, serves on university teams as assigned and performs other duties as assigned.
13.Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work hours may be random and will require flexibility to meet the needs of the athletic program. This position will be required to work and travel nights, weekends and holidays as necessary. This position must purchase and maintain a cellular device and service that will be used for work functions. This position must be responsible for plan choices, calling areas, service features, terminations clauses, and paying for all charges associated with the cellular device and service. This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The CSA will attend required CSA training and is an official of the University who has significant responsibility for students and campus activities and the authority to take action for the University.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises all employees within the Department of Athletics.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant experience in athletics and/or affiliated areas.
Skills: Must support the philosophy of a Division II athletic program with focus on a holistic approach to student-athletes; demonstrated leadership, team-based and effective communication skills; a commitment to performance excellence and to academic achievement of all student-athletes; ability to interact effectively with a variety of constituents internally and externally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced degree
Experience: Coaching and playing experience; evidence of success and understanding/experience related to financial management, compliance, student development, fundraising and marketing.
