The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications position at Colgate is responsible for the effective delivery of communications strategies across all aspects of the assigned athletics department teams and areas.
This individual performs the role of an internal beat reporter, focusing on telling compelling stories in written, digital, video, social media or other innovative formats. The individual is also responsible for developing external media relationships and managing game day media. This individual will also oversee the department’s video intern and student assistants.

Duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications are:
Primary contact for several of Colgate’s 25 Division I athletic programs including, but not limited to, men’s ice hockey, field hockey, women’s lacrosse and cross country and track and field; StatCrew software operator for selected sports; Lead contact for the Patriot League and ECAC Hockey for assigned sports; Developer of online materials to promote Colgate Athletics; Key contact working closely with external vendors in maintaining a high quality website; Coordinator with television, newspaper, and any other media requests, especially in the Central New York area; Promoter of Colgate student-athletes and coaches to provide the best possible experience for those individuals during their time at Colgate; Primary contact for game day press box and press conference operations; Contact for all assigned teams for Colgate Athletics website, statistics, history and record books.

Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience required. The individual should be a strong communicator and writer, have experience with social media, familiarity with shooting and editing video or a willingness to be trained and a proficiency in desktop publishing (InDesign and Photoshop) and StatCrew software. Experience in a collegiate and/or professional communications/content creation role is preferred. The individual must possess a collaborative style and the ability to work effectively within a diverse population. This position is also required to work nights and weekends during athletic seasons as necessary. Compliance with NCAA, Patriot League and Colgate rules and regulations is non-negotiable.
Knowledge and commitment to University, League and NCAA regulations; good communication and technology skills. Bachelor’s degree is required. A current valid driver’s license in accordance with Colgate University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.
