The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse seeks applications for the full-time position of Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach/Assistant Media Relations Director.
This position is expected to start August 2018. Women’s lacrosse will start varsity competition during the 2019-20 academic year.
Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach (9 month appointment): The position of Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach will hold a 65% appointment in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (“the Department”) and will report directly to UWL’s Director of Athletics. The coach will manage the daily operations of a Division III intercollegiate women’s lacrosse program competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (“WIAC”), with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the supervision of the assistant coaching staff and the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, and administering of the women’s lacrosse program (“UWL Women’s Lacrosse”) to meet University and Department objectives. The coach must conduct themselves in such a way as to enhance respect for UWL, the Department, UWL Women’s Lacrosse and UWL student-athletes.
Assistant Media Relations Director (12 month appointment):The Assistant Media Relations Director will hold a 35% appointment and work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations overseeing all communications and media relations for the UW-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletics Department with the goal of increasing the awareness of Eagles Athletics.
Responsibilities include but not limited to assisting in game day statistics; maintaining and update records; managing press table and statistical coverage of home and special events; coordinating daily media relations efforts; result reporting; news releases; feature writing; organizing webcasting of live events; photography, video production and supervising student assistants.
In addition, this position will assist in the layout and production of recruiting/media brochures and game-day programs; assist with assigned projects and marketing, file required reports and information with the NCAA and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; provide daily content and coverage of UWL Athletics on the department’s web site and social media platforms.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Substantial head lacrosse coaching experience at the high school level, club level or above OR substantial assistant lacrosse coaching at the intercollegiate or professional levels.
• The ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license meeting the criteria for driving a vehicle on University/State business is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or Master’s or other post-graduate degree.
• Five years of relevant coaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience in college recruiting.
• Understanding of and commitment to the NCAA Division III ideal.
• Experience in Athletics, Public Relations and/or related field.
• Familiarity with social media platforms, content management platforms, desktop publishing software, graphic design software and statistical programs.
• Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
• Strong writing skills, including knowledge of AP Style.
