Under the direct supervision of the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations, the successful candidate will be a key member of McMurry University’s athletics media relations team.
This position will permit the right person a unique chance to be a part of many exciting professional opportunities with the War Hawks’ 20-sport intercollegiate athletics program as we “Develop Champions for Life.” Evening, weekend and holiday work will be required as needed. Travel may also be required.
Expectations will include the following:
*Development of social and creative media strategies to increase the department’s visibility.
*Proficiency in Statcrew/Automatic Scorebook statistical programs; Volleyball and basketball expertise will be requirements of the job, as well as experience with Live Stats, as this position will serve as a lead statistician at many events.
*Assist the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations with game-day set-up and operation’s needs.
*Work with the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations to maintain and grow the athletics web site (familiarity with Sidearm is desirable, as well as with Stretch Internet).
*Assist with hiring and training of student workers and interns.
*Proficient with In Design desktop publishing, Photoshop and basic office software programs.
*Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, while adhering to proper grammar and University editorial guidelines. *Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics Communications and Operations and the Director of Athletics.
Occasional duties:
The Assistant Director will be asked to lend expertise in other areas essential to the overall success of the McMurry Athletics Communications and Operations office.
Some of these aspects may include:
*Post-season scholar-athlete honors promotion.
*Ability to recognize and promote individual features, volunteerism and other newsworthy activities by our scholar-athletes.
*Oversee set-up and staffing of video broadcasts.
*Arrange photography/video of scholar-athletes.
*Serve on campus and/or departmental committees.
*Design and produce game day programs.
*Assist with annual events like the Hall of Honor and Athletics Golf Tournament.
Minimum Bachelors Degree in communications, sports administration or a related field, as well as 2 years progressively-responsible experience in a collegiate sports information office (internships and educational experience will be considered).
