Assistant Athletics Director, CU Event Center and Game Day Operations
The purpose of this work unit is to provide a multi-purpose venue for the Athletic Department for home game competitions, commencement ceremonies, concerts, trade shows and examinations that benefit the University and the community. This position directs, plans and coordinates the promotion of the facility among University and non-University groups. Long term goals and maintenance is identified and plans are developed and implemented. Furthermore, this position will integrate the Athletic Department’s Guiding Principles into daily operational practices.
What your key responsibilities will be:
Operation Management:
•Coordinate and manage the operational schedules of various uses of the CU Event Center, such as strength and conditioning, sports medicine, external events, and visiting teams.
•Direct and schedule staff to manage the day-to-day activities within the CU Event Center.
•Establish necessary facility maintenance and preventative maintenance programs for the CU Events Conference Center including the coordination with University Departments and outside contractors.
•Recommend facility upgrade options to enhance the user experience.
•Recommend long range facility renovations to meet the needs of the department, University and non-University client.
•Be involved in the renovations and be the onsite contact for all G.C’s, manage the priority list and communicate with the Men’s and Women’s Basketball coaches as well as the Volleyball and Lacrosse coaches regarding status of facilities and improvements.
•Purchase permanent, movable and expandable equipment and supplies.
•Establish a general operation budget that will meet the requirements of the Athletic Department’s operational needs.
•Manage personnel and day-to-day expenses.
Event Management and Coordination:
•Promote facility mission and multi-purpose image to the University and the community.
•Communicate events to the Athletic Department and campus to ensure proper integration with department and campus activities.
•Establish all external events as an outside revenue center with a budget that matches revenues with expenses for outside events.
•Consult with clients as to their technical needs such as event set-up, electrical, sound and lighting requirement, audio/visual considerations for each event.
•Determine if the client needs services that can be provided by the University or if an outside vendor will be needed.
•Resolve conflicts with clients, patrons and staff as required.
•Manage events to ensure a successful financial ROI, and a positive customer and client experience.
Negotiations:
•Negotiate rental terms and rates with University and non-University clients for space, equipment and services at the CU Events Conference Center.
•Negotiate with external contractors to provide services that might be required for the event.
•Negotiate with external vendors who provide facility maintenance and event set-up and break-down crews for a quick turnaround to facilitate as many events as possible in the facility.
Supervisory:
•Provide supervisory functions over CU Events Center full time and part time staff and students.
•Interview, hire and train all new staff.
•Plan, organize and direct employees as their daily assignments might be adjusted based on the event at the CU Events Center.
•Determine temporary staffing needs for each event.
•Work with temporary staffing agencies to provide additional event staff and negotiate costs of the service with the contractor.
What you should know:
•Candidate must be willing and able to work nights and weekends.
•This position will be responsible for the management and coordination of Athletic game day operations for volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, soccer and track and field.
What we require:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Five years of experience working in event management and coordination of facilities operations management in a collegiate athletic venue or professional athletic venue.
• Supervisory experience with student workers and external work crews.
• Willing and able to work nights and weekends.
What you will need:
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the areas of facilities management, community relations, and recreation.
• Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
• Ability to facilitate and participate in group meetings.
What we’d like you to have:
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Previous experience in a Division I collegiate athletics department.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.

Additional Salary Information: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $75,000.00.
