The Associate Director for Athletic Development position will work under the direction of the senior leadership team for Development and collaboratively with the Athletic Department. In addition, the position will work cooperatively with the development officers in a coordinated effort to achieve Ashland University’s athletic fundraising goals, coordinate various athletic fundraising projects, and implement an annual giving strategy. In addition, the qualified candidate will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting donors.
The Associate Director for Athletic Development is expected to partner effectively with the Athletic department coaches and volunteers. The dynamic and successful individual will work to significantly increase the level of philanthropic support from private donors, corporations, and foundations.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
•Manages and solicits a portfolio of 150 major gift prospects.
•Prepares written donor proposals for major gift solicitations.
•Works closely with the Advancement Operations team to develop effective portfolio/donor move strategies.
•Responsible for meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising performance goals.
•Works with selected volunteers and other development staff to ensure coordinated and effective solicitation of major gift prospects for athletics.
•Maintains correspondence with donors and document interactions through university contact reports.
•Attends Athletic Volunteer Board meetings when applicable.
•Assists in facilitating events that serve as cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship opportunities.
•Research, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects; ensuring donors receive proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship.
•Works in close collaboration with the Development and Athletics staff developing annual fundraising goals and plans in order to achieve goals; monitor and report progress regularly.

Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Two to three years of philanthropic fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or a similar non-profit organization. Intercollegiate athletic fundraising experience preferred.
• Knowledge of development and fundraising concepts.
• Proven track record of successful higher education fundraising.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with donors, volunteers, University administrators, and staff.
• Willingness and ability to make cold calls and to cultivate relationships and solicit individuals, corporations, and foundations.
• Ability to manage many projects simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
• Ability to adapt and respond to various situations.
• Demonstrate the aptitude to represent Ashland University in a highly professional and effective manner.
• Strong public speaking, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel and will require a flexible schedule including working occasional evenings and weekends.
