The incumbent will be responsible for the recruitment, retention and evaluation of a highly qualified and competent athletic training, and strength and conditioning personnel at all levels.
Specific duties include:
establish and maintain professional development programs to include requirements of relevant certification and licensing for all team members; develop, supervise, and administer a yearly budget for all Health, Well-Being & Sport Performance departments and exhibit fiscal responsibility and compliance; participate as a member on a multidisciplinary team within the athletic department to develop best practices for the delivery of comprehensive health care, mental health, and strength and conditioning services for UMBC student-athletes; supervise the organization, administration, and maintenance of documentation and record keeping, including the use of electronic medical records; coordinate the development and implementation of all policies and procedures pertaining to Student & Student Athlete Health and Well-Being and adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, the AEC, and UMBC; oversee and provide comprehensive leadership for all aspects of athletic training, and strength and conditioning programs and practices for all UMBC Varsity sports; coordinate risk management and injury prevention efforts for Student Athlete Health and Well-Being personnel and facilities; oversee administration of NCAA and UMBC mandated drug tests; adhere to the Code of Ethics and credentialing requirements of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), Awareness and Adherence to Inter-Agency Task Force recommendations for the care of the student-athlete, and other credentialing bodies; day-to-day contact of one UMBC Varsity sport; and perform other duties as assigned.
Requires a Master's Degree in exercise science, sports administration, health care administration, or ancillary medical field and six years related experience preferably in intercollegiate or professional athletics or healthcare administration. Must be: Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC); eligible for athletic training licensure by the State of Maryland; familiar with sport specific injuries, strength and conditioning principles, mental health and performance psychology principles, performance nutrition principles, and performance science applications; and CPR / AED certified. Must maintain ability to meet Continuing Education requirements as established by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification and the State of Maryland and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is preferred, but not required.
