Overview:
Director of Athletics and Recreational Programs provides administrative leadership for the colleges athletic programs, intramural and the Physical Education Recreation Complex activities and programs. The Director of Athletics provides administrative leadership in the following areas: fund raising, programs/service planning, research, development, marketing, implementation, supervision, coordination, and evaluation. The major areas of responsibility include intercollegiate athletic programs for women and men; intramural programs; Physical Education and Community Recreation Center (PECRC) programs; community memberships; athletic training; recreational programs; auxiliary programs - camps, clinics, special events; and resource development in support of athletic programs.
Description:
• Coordinate scheduling and management of athletic team contests, official practices, and facilities utilization.
• Develop, manage, and evaluate department policies and procedures.
• Hire, supervise, and evaluate athletics department personnel, including all coaches.
• Prepare, execute, and monitor department budgets.
• Approve and oversee the purchase and payment of supplies and equipment.
• Manage and lead the athletics eligibility process: record keeping, certification, and awards.
• Responsibility for the coordination of team transportation to offsite competitions and engagements.
• Responsibility for the coordination of athletic training programs.
• Provide leadership for academic student-athlete success programs.
• Partner with appropriate college personnel to coordinate public relations, marketing programs, risk management programs, the printing of schedules and other promotional literature.
• Facilitate both NJCAA-affiliated and non-affiliated tournaments and sports-related events; provide necessary information and assistance to visiting team/fans.
• Represent College of DuPage athletics with a variety of groups: N4C Conference, Regional IV, NJCAA, NCAA, NAIA, secondary schools, professional organizations, community organizations, and media.
• Coordinate athletic camps, clinics, and sport-related events including intramural sports.
• Facilitate the maintenance and management of information/records.
• Create and maintain a team-oriented organizational climate.
• Maximize the building facilities to strike an appropriate balance for use by students, staff and community members.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years athletics administration leadership experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
EDUCATION:
Masters degree in physical education or related discipline.
PREFERRED:
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years athletics administration experience in a community college setting.
EDUCATION:
Ed.D or Ph.D in appropriate discipline or higher education.
Additional Information:
Microcomputer and other equipment necessary to assist in the operation of the unit. Computer, Typewriter, Calculator, Copier, FAX, Telephone, Dictation Equipment, and Athletic Equipment.
Minimum 40 hours per week during daytime hours, although weekend and evening hours necessary on an as-needed basis. Expected to attend athletic competitions on a regular basis. Necessary skills include: interpersonal relationship skills, communication skills, knowledge and experience with computer administrative management systems, knowledge of budget procedures, and fund raising skills.
