The Opportunity:
Oregon Tech is seeking applicants for the Director of Athletics position with the Athletics department. This is a 12-month, full-time position located on the Klamath Falls, Oregon campus. In order to provide our athletes high-quality facilities to train and perform, the University has recently redeveloped Moehl Stadium Sport Field and implemented a strategic initiative to further enhance our training facilities.
The successful candidate gains an exciting leadership opportunity in an award-winning department and will be instrumental in developing and implementing new strategic initiatives to advance Oregon Tech’s recreational sports and athletics programs. The Director of Athletics will work directly with various campus offices to maximize the utilization of our newly redeveloped facilities to optimize our current athletic programs and create additional programs that will benefit the campus community.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Director of Athletics is the principal administrative officer responsible for intercollegiate athletics, fitness center, and recreational and intramural programs of Oregon Tech and is responsible for all administration, building and field operations and athletic financial management necessary to support athletic and fitness programs at Oregon Tech. Primary responsibilities include overseeing and managing the complete fitness and recreation programs for the campus; developing annual budget plans for allocation of institutional resources as related to institutional and departmental priorities; and overseeing and assisting in coordination of activities for athletic marketing, public relations, including fundraising, membership, meetings, social and other support activities. The Director is also responsible for orchestrating the necessary communication between all segments for the university, coaches, parents, athletic department staff, and student athletes concerning the academic progress of each student athlete; and supervising the departments recruiting activities of coaches by approving/disapproving travel, student aid, and other requests.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or ten (10) or more years of experience in some level of collegiate athletics administration.
• Five (5) years of experience in some level of collegiate athletics administration.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree.
• Knowledge of software utilized in athletics.
• Knowledge of Conference and National rules and regulations as well as individual sport guidelines and/or playing rules.
• Knowledge of sporting event operational requirements including public address, statistical, timing and scoreboard system set up and operations.
• Knowledge of FERPA regulations.
