Purpose
Serve as the Director of Development, Leadership Giving following all Federal, State, NCAA, Conference and Institutional Regulations.
Essential Functions
Build and carry an active portfolio of 100-150 major gift prospects focusing on solicitations of 100,000 and above with mature prospects. Emphasis on portfolio and program building is to be expected in the first 2 years.
Conduct at least 200 strategic in-person moves with prospects and donors per year, and participate in a minimum of 20 solicitations per year. Within 36 months of start date, consistently produce 2M+ per year.
Aggressively identify, and formally qualify, new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects, producing a continuous stream of donors capable of making gifts of 100,000 or more to the Longhorn Foundation.
Collaborate with the data management team to assess prospects and develop strategies designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of individual prospects.
Support the Assistant Athletics Director for Leadership Giving on specific leadership giving campaign initiatives for Texas Athletics. Partner with Longhorn Foundation colleagues to develop, plan, and execute successful campaigns.
Ensure consistent and appropriate contact, facilitate or make solicitations, and ensure effective stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio. Through collegial consultation and cooperation, demonstrate and be a model of collaboration in the University of Texas, Austin development community, while representing the Longhorn Foundation values and its unique role at the University of Texas at Austin.
Develop and maintain an astute awareness of social, business, and philanthropic cultures within the respective donor market, and serve as an expert liaison for the Longhorn Foundation community.
Exhibit strong writing and speaking abilities. Exemplify core purpose and values of the Athletics Department.
Have a comprehensive understanding of Texas Athletics priorities and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific Athletics Department needs.
Assist the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, Senior Associate Athletics Director and Assistant Athletics Director for Leadership Giving in promoting an ethical culture supportive of the strategic plan.
Participate, as a condition of employment, in rules education programs offered by the Athletics Department.
Comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, the NCAA, the Big 12 Conference and other governing bodies.
In the event the employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that violation(s) of the constitutions, bylaws, interpretations, rules or regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference or the NCAA may have taken place, he or she shall report the same promptly to appropriate Athletics Director or to Athletics Risk Management and Services (ARMCS).
The employee may be subject to disciplinary or corrective actions as appropriate to the applicable rules, regulations, bylaws, policies or constitution.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 5-7 years of major gift fundraising experience required. Experience in developing a strategic development plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources. Proven and measurable track record of successful face-to-face interactions with prospective donors. Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying and cultivating prospective donors. Experience in developing and presenting gift proposals to prospective donors. Experience supporting senior administrators, coaches and fellow gift officers. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure and manage details of several concurrent projects. Proven project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Able to travel to visit prospects and donors. Capable of working independently. Work with integrity and professionalism. This position is designated as a Responsible Employee (RE), pursuant to Title IX and University policy. REs have a duty to promptly report incidents as per policy. REs are not confidential reporting resources. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
