SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Schreiner University is a small private liberal arts university located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The university competes in NCAA Division III as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Athletics is a vibrant and important part of the Schreiner culture and the new director will play an important role as the university enters its next strategic planning process. Under the leadership of a newly appointed President, the Departments of Student Services and Athletics will work across campus to continue the growth of enrollment by recruiting and retaining the nation’s best Division III athletes.
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director of Athletics must provide strategic leadership for the Athletic Department while supporting the wider mission and goals of the University. The Director of Athletics will advocate for the importance of athletics within the campus community, as well as the larger Kerrville community, and will serve as a role model of the high standards expected of our students. A successful candidate will have experience recruiting student athletes, as well as cultivating friends of a college athletics program in an effort to meet enrollment and fundraising goals. The successful candidate should demonstrate and support a commitment and sensitivity to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity - valuing each varsity sport equally.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred along with increasing responsibility at a senior level in athletic administration in higher education, or substantial related experience.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic planning.
• Experience in identifying and hiring coaching talent.
• Experience in managing people and budgets.
• Ability to cultivate alumni and booster participation.
• Proven fund raising experience to support the athletic programs.
• Firm commitment to a student-centered culture and the academic success of student-athletes.
• Knowledge and application of all NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules & regulations and the NCAA Clearinghouses for Initial & Amateurism Eligibility.
• Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance and good driving record. CDL Preferred.
