Department Summary
The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. It is the steadfast goal of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to provide the most outstanding student-athlete experience by helping them to achieve excellence, both in the classroom and in their chosen sport. The department has approximately 250 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.
Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to contribute a unique interpretation and/or analysis of assigned sports as the primary communications contact within the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Interview and observe student-athletes, coaches, sport officials and competing teams. Provide stories, updates, analysis and prognostics of the team and ensuing competitions to elevate interest in the athletic department and the specific team. Provide interpretations, insights and analysis to fans and international media outlets via the GoDucks.com website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other multimedia outlets. Act as the primary liaison between the athletics department and all media.
Regularly comes into contact with local media (Pacific Northwest), domestic and international media, coaching staffs, student-athletes, donors, fans, communication colleagues from competing universities, athletic department personnel and others key stakeholders of Oregon Athletics.
Independently makes decision regarding the handling of information available to the media.
Reports to Assistant Athletic Director, Communications.
Responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field.
• Three years of experience working in a collegiate athletics communications office
• Demonstrated understanding of all forms of new/digital media and proven writing/editing skills.
• Experience serving the needs of diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in communications, marketing or related field.
• Previous athletic communications experience working with a variety of NCAA Division I sports.
• NCAA Championships experience.
• Previous athletic communications experience within a Power 5 conference.
• Experience working with collegiate lacrosse and volleyball
• Thorough knowledge of all sports UO sponsors, including understanding of the role of local and national media in assisting efforts in promoting our nationally recognized teams.
