DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
- Missouri Western State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Athletic Director to start on or before August 1, 2017. Missouri Western State University is a member of NCAA Division II and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Missouri Western traditionally achieves athletic success, with teams often nationally ranked. Emphasis is placed on excellence in athletics competition, academic achievement, community service and NCAA rules compliance. The Director reports to the President of the University and is responsible for managing all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program, to include planning, budgeting, scheduling, personnel management, fund raising, and community relations. Six new sports in track and cross country will begin in the fall of 2017; the new Athletic Director will be integral to the development of these new sports. Since 2010, Missouri Western has been the three-week summer home of the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp. Western enjoys excellent athletic facilities, including the 120,000 square foot Griffon Indoor Sports Complex, a new Spring Sports Complex for baseball and softball, and a recently renovated Spratt Stadium featuring one of the largest video scoreboards in Division II.
REQUIRED:
Master’s degree, preferably in athletic administration or a related field; substantial coaching experience preferred (preferably in Division II); supervisory experience; athletic marketing; development and strategic planning experience; or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
The successful candidate will demonstrate personal and professional integrity; strong communication skills; and the ability to generate support among the student body, alumni, University faculty, staff and the community.
Missouri Western is a public regional university with an enrollment of approximately 5,500. The University is located in St. Joseph, Missouri, with a population of more than 70,000 and is about 30 miles from the Kansas City International Airport and the greater Kansas City community.
