Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Responsible for the supervision, direction, and overall performance level of all station news personnel functions, with specific emphasis on program coordination, mix, content and scheduling.
• Develops and communicates a philosophy and strategy for daily news coverage including breaking news, in depth coverage, on-air presentation and website/social media coverage.
• Works cooperatively with other departments including, digital, on and off-air promotions, sales, engineering and business.
• Supports and understands digital delivery platforms including measurement and best practices.
• Responsible for adherence and compliance to Company program standards and FCC regulations.
• Establishes and communicates programming and content goals and vision, and then clearly measures their results.
• Provides programming leadership in a sales-friendly environment.
• Develops and effectively manages department budget.
• Uses promotional strengths of the radio station to help achieve corporate goals.
• Provides rating analysis and reporting.
• Critiques talent and measures performance
• Manages listener relations/communication.
• Manages relationships with programming vendors.
• Manages KCBS’ role as the primary Bay Area station for the Emergency Alert System.
• Preparation of quarterly reports for the public file.
• Delegates specific duties to assistant managers.
• Maintains good relations and communication with CBS Radio News and other CBS all-news stations.
• Maintains relationship with SAG-AFTRA and understands requirements of agreements.
• Other duties and responsibilities as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and/or fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years in radio programming management or equivalent and 4 year degree in related field required. Must be self-motivated and possess excellent communication skills. Knowledge of FCC rules, geographical demographics and familiarity with either the broadcast area or the all news radio format required.
