Description
The Application Development Director drives the vision for consistent architecture across all assigned cross-functional development teams. They are a high level solutions architect, a servant leader, and manager of people.
Examples of Work Performed
• An application development director spends approximately 60% of their week on management & leadership tasks, 30% on technical architecture & team leadership, and 10% on writing code
• Work across a numerous of business and technical groups to ensure technical excellence of our consumer and team-facing experiences
• Manage a group of IT Manager(s), Solutions Architect(s), Developer(s), and other cross-functional disciplines – day to day tasks, mentoring, and career development
• Ensure appropriate technical design methods are followed
• Ensure technology, legal, security and process standards are followed across your assigned business segments
• Understand and communicate technical and functional design requirements to development team
• Experience with the ongoing operation, maintenance and evolution of a digital properties
• Design, code, and test technical solutions, including unit testing
• Ensure Agile tenets are being followed and improved upon
• Guide the evolution of the system’s architecture
• Perform code reviews on key system components
• Understand the necessity of, have experience with and lead establishment of coding standards
• Understand project expectations as communicated by the Product Owner
• Estimate development effort to deliver
• Recognize and effectively communicate risks to project timelines and quality
• Identify system deficiencies and recommend solutions
• Proactively work with Product Owner(s) and Business Owner(s) to define product epics and update roadmaps
• Participate in resource planning & scheduling for the team and developer interview process
Qualifications
Education:
• Four-year college degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Graduate degree preferred
Experience:
• 12+ years of experience in the software or website development industry
• Five to seven years of experience with a majority of the following:
• Numerous programming languages (.Net, Java, JavaScript, C#, PHP, Objective-C, Python, Ruby, etc)
• Numerous frameworks in each language (jQuery, MooTools, Spring, Hibernate, GWT, Sling, Jackrabbit)
• Enterprise level content management and/or collaboration tools (Adobe AEM, SharePoint)
• Content distribution networks and other media delivery platforms such as Scene 7, YouTube, BrightCove.
• Browser performance testing, load testing.
• Mobile development (Phone Gap, Titanium, mobile web and application development)
• Social integration or Apps with Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Web analytics packages (Google Analytics, Omniture, Unica)
• Search engine optimization techniques and tools.
• Ad Network integration.
• Behavioral targeting or end-to-end marketing optimization (CRM type tools, A/B testing, etc)
• E-commerce or other monetization technology integration (experience with Insite a plus)
• MSSQL, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
• Integration tools & techniques (ESBs, Orchestration, SOA, XML, JSON, SOAP, REST, etc)
• *NIX, Windows, and Mac OSes.
• Hosting / Cloud / SaaS offerings
• Vendor management
