The University Advancement Department is a dynamic office dedicated to increasing understanding of and support for UAA. University Advancement serves to increase meaningful engagement between the university community and public through fundraising, alumni and retiree relations, public relations and special events.
The Associate Director of Development for Athletics is a shared position between University Advancement and the Athletics Department. The role of this position is a major gifts officer with additional high-end annual giving responsibilities, who provides community outreach for athletics. The incumbent shall be expected to regularly utilize the Athletics Director for donor cultivation and relationship management. This position requires a willingness to average 30-40 prospect and donor visits quarterly. It is expected that 60% of the incumbent's time be spent with or working on gift prospects. To successfully carry out these objectives, this position is expected to have the seasoned interpersonal skills and abilities necessary to successfully interact with diverse public and academic constituencies including prominent citizens, elected officials, CEOs and major prospective donors as well as with University administration, faculty, staff and students.
The incumbent is expected to be articulate both in speaking and writing to public audiences and be able to motivate, lead and work well with others in support of UAA and Seawolf Athletics.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in intercollegiate athletics or on behalf of such programs; success in solicitation of donations; establish and cultivate relationships with donors; understanding of the motivations of individuals to give philanthropically; exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; strong leadership skills; managing projects from inception to completion; work well as part of a team; and lead staff and volunteers.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, public administration or relevant field and a minimum of two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
