Our Apparel Team is looking for a strategic Director, North American Apparel Sales to join the team!
The Director, North American Apparel Salesis responsible for strategically developing a competitive sales organization that will maximize sales and revenues per corporate targets and developing a channel strategy. The Director, North American Sales is a strong leader with a demonstrated ability to lead a competitive sales organization, strategically develop customer relationships and partnership. The result will be to meet or exceed corporate targets for revenue and profit growth.
Duties & Responsibilities
General
• Manage and create the strategic vision for the company’s apparel sales function. This includes leading a team of sales reps, and managing various sales support and forecasting functions, including creation of sales programs and end-to-end execution of sales programs. Responsible for spearheading initiatives that will result in year-on-year improvements in net sales and gross margin.
• Work effectively and strategically across the retail channels, including the creation of a portfolio strategy for independent specialty dealers and major sporting goods chains. Develop and implement effective sales discount programs that promote long term strategic partnerships.
• Collaborate with Marketing team to ensure brand positioning and Marketing and Sales strategy are aligned
• Secure profitable new business. Significant opportunity remains in new channels, new categories, and e-tail.
• Oversee and direct the Custom Sales business
• Build and lead a high-performing Sales team. Restructure when necessary to maximize sales growth within each region. This also includes recruiting, developing, motivating, and evaluating all members within the Apparel Sales organization.
• Serve as a key member of the Apparel Executive Leadership Team. Collaborate with peers to develop and implement the company’s objectives, goals, strategies, policies, and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with the product team by providing market experience to help guide seasonal assortments and new product innovation.
• Develop and manage sales budgets, and contribute to broader company operating budgets.
Leadership
• Coach, mentor, and develop direct report(s), including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
• Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
• Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
• Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the Dorel Sports culture and that emphasizes the identified mission, vision, guiding principles, and values of Dorel Sports.
• Lead employees using Dorel Sports’ performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.
• Lead employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
• Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
• Maintain transparent communication and appropriately communicate organization information to the department.
Other
• Follows internal controls and company policies as set by company and job function.
• Contributes to the success of company by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned.
Essential qualifications
• 10+ years senior level relevant experience, ideally within sporting goods in the performance apparel industry. Experience in global marketing a definite asset.
• Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Business or Marketing
• Experience developing and leading premier sales organizations of direct employees and independent representatives
• Track record of driving significant revenue and profit growth. In addition, the ideal candidate will have proven brand building experience.
• Experience in hiring, developing, and motivating a group of highly professional people. Also, experience working closely with Senior Management team to lead the organization.
• Experience generating new business in the current marketplace and in new markets. Experience in Europe would be idea.
• Clear understanding of retail pricing and competitors.
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the year
• Proven ability to lead and manage change. The successful candidate will have a high sense of urgency and flexibility, combined with the ability to inspire others to accept change and achieve more than they thought possible.
• Possesses genuine business creativity, with the innate ability to see business opportunities that may not be immediately evident.
• Superior communications and interpersonal skills. The ability to form relationships and be persuasive, tailoring the message and delivery to audiences that include customers, employees, the senior management team, and Dorel’s management. An internal/external customer service orientation is essential in communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, and key strategic business partners.
• Strong record of achievement and demonstrated willingness to ‘roll-up-your sleeves’, with a ‘can-do attitude’ is critical
• Affinity for the product and the target consumer.
• Thrive in an open and non-hierarchical environment that requires a high degree of interaction among functions. The ideal candidate will bring high drive but low ego.

• Strong interest in running, cycling or general health and fitness an asset
Physical Demands
• Extensive travel required.
