Assistant Athletic Director (Assistant Athletic Director for Performance Psychology Services)
Penn State University is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Performance Psychology Services.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
developing and executing innovative strategies to maximize student-athlete athletic performance and general well-being; develop positive and productive relationships with coaches and student-athletes; facilitate Performance Psychology educational programming and develop educational materials for student-athletes, and coaches use; assist student-athletes in enhancing their performance and resiliency to successfully manage the pressures of college and sports by providing performance counseling and teaching coping techniques upon requests; conduct initial consultation and assessments for student-athletes with a wide range of performance, mental health, behavioral, emotional and development concerns, and make referrals as appropriate to University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS); assist with return to play processes to help injured student-athletes develop mental coping skills essential to positive outcomes; properly vet external performance psychology resources that may serve as additional resources to coaches and teams; serve as a member of the Sport Performance Team; collect and analyze data to assist the sport performance team in understanding trends that impact student-athlete performance, and utilize the data to be able to take proactive steps in developing programs and resources that enhance student-athlete performance. This job will be filled as a level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Requires a Ph.D. in Sport or Performance Psychology; Sport and Exercise Psychology; Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Sports Psychology; Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Psy.D. in clinical or counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport Psychology plus a minimum of 5 years of experience working at the elite Division 1 collegiate level (or comparable experience) for a level
Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Required competencies for this position are demonstrated ability to connect with, and inspire a diverse student population (e.g. race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc.) and help to foster a culture of respect in order to enhance student-athlete athletic experience, and maximize potential; excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and advance strategic plans that support student-athletes and the mission of the Department; demonstrated ability to design and conduct a high-performance training program through empirically-supported interventions; expertise in cognitive performance training and life skill development for athletes; Broad understanding of the physiological, nutritional, motor movement, and training principles that influence athletic performance. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job responsibilities. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to three publicly available background checks.
