Description of Position: The Associate Athletic Director, Compliance will oversee all aspects of the department’s Compliance unit, including the supervision of the Compliance staff. This position is expected to work closely with all department staff, coaches, student-athletes, and campus partners to provide daily monitoring and education of all NCAA and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
The Director, Compliance will serve as the compliance office’s primary contact person for rules interpretations, will develop and oversee the rules education program, prepare waivers and self-reports for submission to the NCAA and Pac-12 conference office, assist with strategic planning, and establish and implement policies and systems to ensure rules compliance.
A. NCAA and Pac-12 Interpretations
• Serve as the Compliance Office’s primary contact person for providing rules interpretations on NCAA and Pac-12 rules to coaches, staff, student-athletes and external constituents.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCAA bylaws and interpretations, Pac-12 rules, and University of California policies regarding athletic rules.
B. Rules Education
• Develop and oversee a comprehensive rules education program.
• Present rules education sessions to student-athletes, coaches, athletic department staff, other University staff, and external constituents.
C. Policies and Procedures
• Analyze, establish and implement new or revised policies and procedures to help ensure rules compliance and institutional control.
• Implement and update recruiting/compliance software system.
D. Eligibility
• Serve as liaison to the Athletic Eligibility Director with regard to student-athlete eligibility matters. Assist with development of systems to certify student-athletes for practice and competition.
• Conduct research and draft waiver petitions to the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference
E. Violations
• Conduct preliminary investigations and report findings on potential violations
• Draft and submit violation reports to the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference
F. Other
• Serve on Athletic Department’s Communications Council to assist in the development and implementation of Department initiatives.
• Oversee the compliance internship program.
• Assist with risk assessments and strategic planning for the athletic compliance program.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience.
• Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices.
• Highly developed problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
• Effective listening skills.
• Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in the use of basic computer applications and the NCAA’s LSDBi, RSRO, and Compliance Assistant systems.
• Effective customer service skills.
• Three years of full-time experience in Division I Athletics Compliance or equivalent.
• Advanced working knowledge of NCAA Division I and Pac-12 policies, rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Proficiency with a recruiting/compliance software system and Campus Solutions system.
