Assistant Director of Development, Athletics The University of Akron Akron, OH
The University of Akron, a NCAA Division I institution and proud member of the Mid-American Conference, is now accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Athletics Development / Z-Fund. The Z-Fund is the organization that provides private gift support for Intercollegiate Athletics at The University of Akron.
Responsibilities:
The Z-Fund is the primary fundraising arm for all 18 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sport programs at The University of Akron. The Assistant Director of Athletic Development will be responsible for the oversight and implementation of the Z-Fund annual fund program, including management of the Z-Fund solicitation calendar, donor acknowledgement process and the stewardship of Z-Fund members. The successful candidate will also manage a development portfolio of prospects and will be expected to meet annual face-to-face visits and revenue goals and other duties as assigned by the Associate AD for Development and/or Senior Associate Director for Marketing and Development. The successful candidate will have both excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. They will be proficient utilizing Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and email (Google, Outlook, etc.).
Essential Duties: Z-Fund Annual Giving Program: Z-Fund programming will include but is not limited to: Z-Fund collateral development including research and procurement of collateral; stewardship of Z-Fund members, prospecting for potential donors to athletics; tracking and delivery of all Z-Fund benefits and oversight of an annual budget for the operations to support the fundraising arm. Incumbent will be responsible for Z-Fund operations which generates revenue in support of over 450 student-athletes and sport specific giving which provides financial assistance to all 18 intercollegiate sport programs. This may include but is not limited to coordination of events, research for potential event locations and venues related to Z-Fund events, purchasing and distribution of collateral materials, donor fulfillment items, donor engagement, assisting with the annual fund calendar and various current and/or new initiatives surrounding the Z-Fund. The incumbent is expected to make independent judgement as it relates to donor events and cultivation plans, operate within a budget for each project, follow proper state, university and NCAA policies as well as be an integral part of the Athletic Development Team.
Annual Giving and Donor Portfolio Management: The Assistant Director will also manage a development portfolio of prospects with annual face-to-face visit and revenue goals. Revenue goals may be a combination of the number of Z-Fund members (quantity) as well as dollar amounts once employee establishes donor contacts. This involves working in conjunction with the other staff members on the athletics development team in order to generate fundraising revenues for the department on an annual basis.
External Relations Initiatives: At times the Assistant Director may coordinate events in which will require participation and management of various department staff members during the event. This includes but is not limited to department fundraisers, alumni events, golf outings, donor cultivation events, and other athletics department and university wide events.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Required Qualifications: A relevant Bachelor's degree and a minimum of (2) two years of marketing, fundraising/development, corporate sponsorship or other revenue generating experience. Experience working with various vendors, corporate partners and other related organizations.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a collegiate and/or professional athletic environment preferred. Understanding of NCAA Rules Compliance and experience in higher education fundraising preferred. Ability to develop digital and print collateral as they relate to annual fundraising. Proven ability to raise revenue. Ability to manage a client portfolio preferred.
