Develop and provide a comprehensive Healthy Choices Program to serve all USM student-athletes and approximately 100 Pine Belt-area students. This specifically includes the development and provision of all aspects of healthy eating, to include but not be limited to: the education of USM student-athletes and Pine Belt students regarding nutrition, including individual nutritional plans and team plans; conducting nutritional assessments for all students in the program and the provision of subsequent counseling for student-athletes with clinical nutritional needs; and collaborates with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, team physicians, and athletic administration regarding the operation of the Health Choices Program. Adhere to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
Develop a comprehensive wellness education and healthy choices program for USM student-athletes.
Plan healthy choices programming for Pine Belt-area students and their families.
Implement sports team nutritional plans, including consultation on team meals and fueling strategies based on schedule/activities.
Work with members of all coaching staffs, the strength and conditioning staff, the athletic medicine staff and related student-athlete service providers to ensure a collaborative and comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of diet and nutritional related medical issues.
Coordinate/manage quantity food production and distribution, such as developing and managing training table menus, catering, and meals during team travel.
Evaluate nutritional quality of refueling stations and recommend items providing a positive nutritional characteristic to refueling stations.
Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and team physicians to research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA rules, regulations and nutrition related bylaws.
Conduct body composition assessments by utilizing and maintaining appropriate technology.
Conduct nutritional assessments and counseling for student-athletes with clinical nutritional needs, such as eating disorders, IBS, Celiac disease, Crohn's disease, food allergies, and diabetes.
Develop a Healthy Choices Laboratory on the USM campus (Duff Athletics Center) which would serve as a wellness education center for USM student- athletes as well as a site for education services for youth and families of the Pine Belt.
Conduct nutritional assessments and screenings for individuals and teams.
Bachelor's degree in health, nutrition, food system management or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years related experience
Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration) and Licensed Dietitian (in State of Mississippi, or eligible for licensure upon hire).
In addition to the above certification and licensure; a Master's degree in a related field and 2-3 years' experience as a Sports Nutritionist/Dietitian preferred.
