Position Description
Walmart’s optical labs are one of the largest producers of prescription eyewear in the USA. This Director will manage one of our three manufacturing facilities based in Dallas, Texas that has 200-300 associates.
• Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to deliver results by coordinating large, cross-functional teams in sometimes stressful or demanding circumstances. This includes being able to set directions, develop troubleshooting plans and to anticipate and plan for problems.
• Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and efficiency improvement
• An understanding of equipment operation and troubleshooting along with qualification and verification methods including safe start-up, risk mitigation and testing and analysis using statistical methods
• The individual should have strong analytical skills including statistics, data analysis, data organization and communication
• Plan an control the flow of work and ensure the proper management of priorities
• Establish, deploy and maintain key performance indicators related to departmental operations and based off the targets defined with top management
• Ensure successful implementation of new processes and new technologies (some related to new product launch)
• This person will be responsible for all equipment and production operations for a 24/7 operation. This includes leading and managing cross functional teams to deliver results
• Manages performance of all assigned staff, setting goals and objectives, and reviewing performance regularly
• Ensure synergy and collaboration between all internal department's and external partners
• Responsible for strategy and tactical execution of all material management and inventory management programs to ensure low cost, efficiency, quality, and the most prudent use of working capital
• Proven ability to apply technical skills in a transactional environment
• LEAN, Six Sigma, or Continuous improvement project management is a plus
Minimum Qualifications
5 years senior management experience (i.e., supervises other managers) in a manufacturing, optical, facility/plant operations, distribution, or logistics environment OR 1 year experience as a Co Manager - Optical Lab OR 5 years senior management experience (i.e., supervises other managers) as a Wal-Mart Manager (non-optical) supervising 100 or more exempt and non exempt associates
Previous experience managing budgets, profit and loss, or other financial responsibilities
Additional Preferred Qualifications
American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification
Bachelor s Degree in a related field (for example, Business Administration, Business Management, Financial Management Production/Operations Management Logistics or Engineering)
Previous experience in an optical manufacturing environment
Previous experience managing budgets, profit and loss, or other financial responsibilities
Previous experience with manufacturing optimization procedures (for example, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizan, Continuous Improvement, Process Control, 5-S)
Previous project management experience
