Job Summary and Mission
Starbucks is looking for a driven, critical thinker with a strong background in planning and supply chain strategy. The director of Digital Planning and Strategy will champion innovative thinking to build end-to-end product flow solutions, while driving inventory, replenishment, capacity, S&OP and assortment planning strategy roadmaps. This role also leads the development of methodologies, standards, tools and training for managing projects based on industry best practices, creating a center of excellence for Planning and new product introduction. And will drive adoption of new technology platforms supporting the goal of exception-based planning. Our future partner models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership- Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning and Execution- Developing strategic and operational plans for the digital planning strategy team, managing execution, and measuring results:
• Contributes to the development and implementation of comprehensive inventory fulfillment, replenishment, capacity, demand and assortment planning strategies.
• Owns Demand Planning road map and benchmarking and develops processes to incorporate predictive analytics
• Partners with Technology and Strategy & Deployment on data science requirements and tools to execute demand road map
• Leads the sales and operations planning and inventory management supporting the Product portfolio team, while influencing planning resources within each business channel.
• Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
• Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
• Reviews and coordinates product team replenishment strategy across the planning and new product introduction team along with financial impacts.
• Lead across product teams on Metrics Dashboard
• Utilizes financial measures to analyze and react to business trends within the merchandising area.
Business Requirements- Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
• Creates and maintains a database with multiple store attributes and customer profiles to enable the replenishment team to develop the appropriate product and maximize sales, margin, and inventory turn. Communicates with retail, other business channels, and the field organization for updates regarding automatic replenishment, store assortment planning, and inventory management.
• Develops recommendations on promotional vs. core products, including gross margin profitability as well as operating profitability.
• Leads a team of analysts to provide comprehensive and compelling analysis around business dynamics and trends for the product programs that help to shape and influence platform strategies.
• Provides high-level input around key metrics for platform performance as part of monthly business review meetings.
• Teaches concepts of statistical demand; discusses and presents key drivers and issues around forecast accuracy and performance measurement.
• Understands category strategies and ensures linkage of product and program plans to support the strategies.
Partner Development & Team Building- Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
• Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
• Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
• Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
• Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
• Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.

• Inventory management – 8 years
• Supply Chain Strategy – 8 years
• Store assortment planning
• Progressive experience in retail operations, project management, planning and forecasting, and retail management
• Working with automated procurement and inventory control systems
• Implementation and driving user adoption on planning digital tools and platforms
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
